The trailer for X-Men '97 season 2 introduces Apocalypse as the antagonist, bringing turmoil throughout time.
Your beloved animated mutants are making a comeback this July on Disney Plus.
Marvel has just released the first trailer for X-Men ’97 season 2, confirming its premiere on Disney+ on July 1. The first season debuted in March 2024 and quickly became one of the best adaptations of X-Men ever. Season 2 has much to deliver, and judging by the trailer, it seems ready to meet that expectation.
What can we anticipate from X-Men ’97 season 2?
The new season resumes with the X-Men dispersed across various time periods, urgently seeking to return to the 1990s. Meanwhile, in the decade they've left behind, untrustworthy foes and increasing mutant intolerance are filling the void created by their absence.
The main antagonist this season is Apocalypse, with the storyline heavily drawing inspiration from the famous Age of Apocalypse comic series, known for being one of the most cherished and intense arcs in X-Men lore.
For those who may not know, Age of Apocalypse was a pivotal 1995 Marvel Comics storyline where Apocalypse seizes control of North America, leading the X-Men to exist in an entirely different and darker timeline.
The trailer also features over thirty new and returning mutants, alongside numerous Easter eggs for dedicated fans, including a look at Weapon Plus. The entire voice cast is back, including Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, and others.
What else is essential to know before the premiere of X-Men ’97 season 2?
Wolverine is back, and his adamantium claws are fully restored, which is significant since Magneto tore them out at the end of season 1, a scene taken straight from the 1993 Fatal Attractions comic storyline.
Rogue continues to mourn Gambit’s death, and the trailer hints at a brief appearance by Deadpool, although it turns out to be Morph taking his shape. Meanwhile, Bishop and Forge are on a quest to bring everyone back to the 90s.
There’s even more to look forward to, as Marvel has confirmed that VisionQuest, the WandaVision spin-off featuring Paul Bettany, will debut on Disney Plus on October 14.
