The trailer for X-Men ’97 season 2 unveils Apocalypse as the antagonist, spreading turmoil through different timelines.
Your beloved animated mutants are making their comeback this July on Disney Plus.
Marvel has just released the first trailer for the second season of X-Men ’97, confirming its premiere on Disney+ on July 1. The first season debuted in March 2024 and quickly became one of the finest adaptations of X-Men ever. Season 2 has high expectations to meet, and from the looks of this trailer, it seems prepared for the challenge.
What can you anticipate from X-Men ’97 season 2?
The new season continues with the X-Men separated across various time periods, struggling to return to the 1990s. Meanwhile, in the decade they abandoned, new enemies and growing mutant intolerance are taking advantage of their absence.
The main antagonist this season is Apocalypse, with a strong influence from the classic Age of Apocalypse comic storyline, which is one of the most cherished and intense arcs in X-Men lore.
For those unfamiliar, Age of Apocalypse is a major 1995 Marvel Comics event where Apocalypse seizes control of North America, placing the X-Men in a completely alternate and darker timeline.
The trailer also showcases over thirty fresh and returning mutants, alongside a plethora of Easter eggs for longtime fans, including a brief look at Weapon Plus. The complete voice cast is back, featuring Ray Chase, Jennifer Hale, Alison Sealy-Smith, Cal Dodd, and more.
What else should you be aware of before the premiere of X-Men ’97 season 2?

Wolverine returns with his adamantium claws fully restored, which is significant since Magneto extracted them at the end of season 1, a moment taken directly from the 1993 Fatal Attractions comic storyline.
Rogue continues to mourn the loss of Gambit, and the trailer hints at a short appearance by Deadpool, which turns out to be Morph taking on his likeness. Meanwhile, Bishop and Forge are on a quest to bring everyone back to the 90s.
There is even more to anticipate, as Marvel has also confirmed that VisionQuest, the WandaVision spin-off featuring Paul Bettany, will arrive on Disney Plus on October 14.
