The new HyperX Omen 15 merges AMD and Intel technology, focusing on portability without significantly sacrificing performance.

Modern gaming laptops have recently polarized into two categories: large 16-inch and 18-inch desktop replacements, or compact 14-inch models that often feel a bit cramped for extensive gaming. This is why HP's new HyperX Omen 15 is refreshing; it revives the traditional 15-inch gaming laptop design with a portable chassis that still houses proper gaming hardware.

HP's sleek HyperX Omen 15 comes equipped with RTX 5070 graphics and options for either AMD or Intel processors.

The new HyperX Omen 15 offers a choice between Intel Core Ultra 7 356H and Core Ultra 9 386H processors or AMD Ryzen 7 8745HX and Ryzen 9 8945HX, depending on the configuration. All current U.S. models pair these CPUs with RTX 5070 laptop graphics, up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and PCIe Gen5 SSD storage.

      HP

HP is heavily emphasizing the compact premium gaming aspect with this laptop. It features a 15.3-inch 16:10 display that boasts a 1600p IPS panel, 180Hz refresh rate, and 500 nits brightness. Users can also upgrade to a 2.8K OLED panel at 120Hz, which reaches peak brightness of about 1,100 nits with HDR.

Interestingly, this laptop seems to fit between HP’s larger Omen 16 series and more portable options like the Omen Transcend 14. In other words, it occupies the classic "middle child" gaming laptop category that was once dominant before manufacturers shifted their focus to extremes.

The 15-inch gaming laptop has regained its appeal.

While a 15.3-inch screen might not seem significantly larger than a modern 14-inch gaming laptop, that slightly increased size can lead to substantial improvements in other areas. A larger chassis typically means better thermal management, more space for higher GPU wattages, and potentially quieter fans during gaming, which can be far more important than a few millimeters saved in design.

      HP

However, weighing about 5.34 pounds, it's not exactly the most portable device. Nevertheless, it is still more manageable compared to the oversized 16-inch and 18-inch gaming laptops that currently dominate the market. Notably, HP appears to be keeping the new Omen 15 restricted to North America for now, indicating that the company is specifically aiming at mainstream U.S. gamers seeking strong RTX 5070 performance without the bulk of a desktop replacement disguised as a laptop.

Pope states AI must be controlled and should not dominate humanity. We're heading in the opposite direction.

The Pope has recently issued his first encyclical, which AI companies should take note of.

Pope Leo XIV signed his first encyclical on May 15, coinciding with the 135th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII's Rerum novarum. The document, titled Magnifica humanitas, was published on May 25 and addresses one of the key issues of our time: artificial intelligence and its effects on humanity.

The central message is not anti-technology. The Pope emphasizes that technology isn't a threat or inherently evil. However, he asserts that technology is never neutral—it reflects the values of those who develop, finance, and control it. That’s where it gets intriguing.

I developed an offline alternative to Grammarly and turned it into a Mac app without any coding.

It operates in a browser tab. It's a Chrome extension. It’s also a Mac app. Claude created it for me in all three forms.

I wrote this entire article while on an airplane experiencing unusually severe turbulence. The software I used for spell-checking and grammatical corrections was built at an airport. The language processing engine is completely running on my Mac, offline, rectifying all my errors and deleting double spaces while I type furiously and sip a sugar-laden coffee.

Also, I don't know how to code. I didn’t write any code, yet the Mac application I am currently using looks more polished and operates more smoothly than Grammarly
