Gemini is now able to create videos, summarize your morning, and handle digital tasks while you rest.
Gemini has now transformed into an AI intern that never logs off.
Google is rolling out a significant update to the Gemini app, introducing several exciting enhancements. The era of merely being a chatbot is coming to an end, and the company envisions Gemini as a full-time digital assistant.
During the Google I/O 2026 event, the company unveiled a revamped Gemini app along with a new model, proactive daily summaries, video features, and a round-the-clock agent called Gemini Spark. Google boasts that Gemini has surpassed 900 million monthly users across 230 countries and over 70 languages, a notable increase from 400 million the previous year.
Gemini Omni improves further
The most eye-catching feature is Gemini Omni, Google's new model that generates cinematic video outputs from text, images, and video prompts. Users can utilize zoom effects, change backgrounds, apply templates, and even create a personalized AI avatar that resembles them in appearance and voice. This feature is rolling out today for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers worldwide.
Gemini Spark serves as your personal AI agent
Another standout feature is Gemini Spark, a cloud-based agent capable of continuing its tasks even after you close your laptop or lock your phone. The company mentioned that Spark can analyze monthly credit card statements for unnoticed subscription charges, monitor school emails for important deadlines, and convert meeting notes into refined Docs complete with a draft follow-up email.
For significant actions like sending emails or making purchases, Gemini Spark will seek user confirmation before proceeding. It will start rolling out to trusted testers this week, with a US Google AI Ultra beta expected next week. Additionally, there's Daily Brief, which aggregates information from Gmail and Calendar to create a personalized morning summary outlining priorities and next steps. This feature is quite similar to Samsung’s Now Brief.
As of today, the macOS app now includes Spark. Google also intends to introduce new features later this summer. With this announcement, it's evident that Gemini's role extends beyond simply responding to prompts. Furthermore, the company has recently integrated AI agents into Google Search, launched Pomelli to assist with brand development, and showcased WearOS 7. AI can now pass the Turing Test in live chats and appear more human than ourselves, which is quite unsettling.
UC San Diego researchers discovered that GPT-4.5 was perceived as human 73% of the time during live interactions.
AI can indeed pass the Turing Test during live chats, and this recent finding is quite alarming. In a study by UC San Diego, GPT-4.5 was more successful than actual participants in persuading judges that they were communicating with a human.
This setup was more challenging to dismiss than a typical benchmark. Judges engaged with real-time conversations rather than static prompts and had to make quick decisions based solely on the dialogue.
Google aims for Gemini to contribute to the next significant scientific breakthrough.
Gemini for Science integrates agentic AI into genuine research processes.
Google is embedding Gemini deeper into research workflows, focusing on ideas, experiments, and scientific literature. At Google I/O 2026, the company launched Gemini for Science, an experimental suite centered around agentic AI in scientific research. It addresses the manual tasks involved in discoveries, including hypothesis formulation, computational testing, and literature evaluation.
Discord finally implements end-to-end encryption for calls, but direct messages are excluded.
Discord has spent three years developing one of the most robust cross-platform encryption systems ever introduced, yet it does not apply to the aspect of the app fundamental to everyday communication.
Discord has just finished what it started back in 2023, and while the outcome is genuinely commendable, there is a notable limitation. As of early March 2026, all regular voice and video calls on Discord are now end-to-end encrypted (E2EE), and there is no need to adjust any settings, as this feature is automatically activated. The encryption utilizes DAVE, which is Discord’s proprietary open-source protocol.
