Gemini is now capable of creating videos, summarizing your morning, and handling digital tasks while you rest.
Gemini is now an AI intern that never logs off
Google is rolling out a significant update for the Gemini app, introducing a range of exciting enhancements. The chatbot phase is winding down as the company aims for Gemini to evolve into a more comprehensive digital assistant.
At Google I/O 2026, the tech giant unveiled a revamped Gemini app, along with a new model, proactive daily summaries, video features, and a 24/7 agent called Gemini Spark. Google reports that Gemini has surpassed 900 million monthly users across 230 countries and over 70 languages, an increase from 400 million last year.
Gemini Omni gets even better
The most eye-catching feature is Gemini Omni, Google's new model that generates cinematic video content from text, images, and video prompts. Users can apply zoom effects, change backgrounds, utilize templates, and even create a personalized AI avatar that resembles and mimics their voice. This feature is launching today for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers around the globe.
Gemini Spark is your personal AI agent
Another notable feature is Gemini Spark, a cloud-based agent that continues to operate even when you close your laptop or lock your phone. The company claims Spark can analyze monthly credit card statements for undisclosed subscription charges, monitor school emails for deadlines, and convert meeting notes into polished Docs with a drafted follow-up email.
For significant tasks such as sending emails or making purchases, Gemini Spark will verify with the user before proceeding. This week, the feature is being rolled out to trusted testers, with a US beta for Google AI Ultra scheduled for next week. Additionally, there’s Daily Brief, which aggregates information from Gmail and Calendar to create a customized morning digest with priorities and next actions, resembling Samsung’s Now Brief.
The macOS app with Spark is also available as of today, and Google plans to introduce new features later this summer. This announcement indicates that Gemini is evolving beyond merely responding to prompts. Furthermore, the company has added AI agents to Google Search, launched Pomelli to assist with brand development, and even presented WearOS 7. AI can pass the Turing Test in live chats and appear more human than us. I am spooked now
Researchers at UC San Diego found that GPT-4.5 was perceived as human 73% of the time during live conversations.
AI has managed to pass the Turing Test in live chats, and the latest findings are unsettling. In a study conducted by UC San Diego, GPT-4.5 demonstrated that it could convince judges in real conversations that it was a human participant, outshining real individuals.
The setup was more difficult to dismiss than a conventional test, as judges responded to live exchanges rather than static prompts, making rapid judgments based solely on dialogue.
Google wants Gemini to help build the next big scientific breakthrough
Gemini for Science aims to integrate agentic AI more deeply into actual research processes.
Google is embedding Gemini further into the research workflow, beginning with the generation of ideas, experimentation, and examination of scientific literature. At Google I/O 2026, the company introduced Gemini for Science, an experimental suite centered around agentic AI in scientific research. It focuses on the labor-intensive aspects of discovery, encompassing hypothesis generation, computational testing, and literature review.
Discord calls finally get end-to-end encryption, but your DMs didn’t make the cut
Discord invested three years developing one of the most comprehensive cross-platform encryption systems, yet it does not apply to the part of the app that underpins daily communication.
Discord has completed a project it initiated back in 2023, and while the outcome is genuinely commendable, there’s a crucial exception. As of early March 2026, all standard voice and video calls on Discord are now protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE), and no switches need to be flipped as this feature is enabled by default. This encryption utilizes DAVE, which is Discord’s proprietary open-source protocol.
