Volkswagen is reintroducing the electric ID.Buzz bus with some exciting enhancements for 2027.

Until the issues of pricing and range are resolved, the improvements seem to be advancements in every area except for the factors that truly deterred buyers.

Volkswagen has entirely skipped the 2026 model year for the ID.Buzz, an action that surprised many and sparked the typical discussion about whether the electric bus is no longer viable. However, it turns out that it is indeed still in production, as the automaker has officially confirmed the 2027 ID.Buzz.

The new model is set to arrive with updates indicating that Volkswagen has heeded the feedback from early owners and reviewers. The standout feature is the new Tourer 4Motion trim, which transforms the electric bus into a genuine electric camper.

      What’s new in the 2027 ID.Buzz lineup?

This new trim draws inspiration from the European “Good Night Package,” offering a fold-out mattress on a dedicated platform, window shades, front ventilation panels, and a stowable outdoor table with chairs.

Additionally, there's an Overnight Mode that modifies the lighting, climate, and power management settings for sleeping inside. Other features include a retractable tow hitch, captain's chairs in the second row, an electrochromic panoramic sunroof, 360-degree cameras, and dark graphite 20-inch wheels.

In addition to the Tourer trim, the overall 2027 ID.Buzz lineup also receives several significant upgrades. A NACS adapter is now included, enabling compatibility with Tesla Superchargers without the need to acquire one separately. Furthermore, one-pedal driving is now standard on all trims.

The 2027 ID.Buzz also benefits from numerous software enhancements.

Volkswagen's upgraded ID.6 infotainment software is now integrated into the electric bus, featuring a redesigned navigation interface. New functionalities include myQ Connected Garage remote access, TravelAssist with assisted lane changes, and AirConsole gaming directly on the infotainment screen.

Moreover, the company is providing a one-year complimentary trial of the In-Vehicle Premium subscription, which features ChatGPT voice integration, access to over 30,000 radio stations, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The available color options are limited to a two-tone scheme, specifically a new combination of Candy White and Cherry Red.

Interestingly, the company has yet to disclose the pricing and range details for the new electric bus. The 2025 ID.Buzz had prices ranging from $60,000 to $70,000, with EPA-rated ranges of 234 miles for the RWD version and 231 miles for the AWD version. We do not anticipate these figures to change for the 2027 model.

After mastering range and charging, Chinese EV brands are now emphasizing three-wheel driving in SUVs.

BYD, Aito, and Li Auto are shifting their focus to active suspension as the new competitive edge following their successes in range and charging capabilities.

Chinese EV manufacturers have been striving for years to excel in range, charging speed, and display technology. Now, the competition has taken a peculiar turn, with premium SUVs showcasing the capability of three-wheel driving.

As reported by Car News China, BYD’s Denza B8 Flash Charge Edition, Huawei-supported Aito M9, and Li Auto L9 are demonstrating how active suspension can elevate a wheel while the vehicle continues to move at low speeds. The demonstrations appear dramatic, but the practical applications include tire changes, off-road recovery, and navigating uneven terrain without becoming stuck.
