      While the leaked price seems outrageous, Qualcomm's flagship processors have consistently increased in cost over the years. Yadav estimates that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 were priced around $120 to $130 in 2022. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 saw a price increase to about $160, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 hovered between $170 and $200. Then came the Snapdragon 8 Elite, priced over $220, followed by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at $240 to $280. Now, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro is expected to surpass $300.

      This leaked pricing provides insight into why Qualcomm may be considering splitting its flagship chip into two levels. Earlier rumors have suggested that the company might introduce a standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 alongside a more powerful Pro variant. The higher-end Pro model is anticipated to offer a more significant performance enhancement, improved graphics, and support for LPDDR6 memory, making it better suited for Ultra-tier phones instead of all premium Android flagships. This indicates that chips like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro might be exclusive to the most high-end Android devices, such as the Galaxy S27 Ultra and Xiaomi 18 Ultra, as well as Ultra models from brands like Oppo, Vivo, and Motorola.

      What implications does this have for consumers?

      Samsung has already paved the way for what this scenario entails. It has increased the prices of Galaxy S26 models in key markets due to rising memory costs, and the situation has only worsened since. RAM and NAND prices remain under pressure as the AI surge diverts more supply to data centers. If Qualcomm's leading chip truly exceeds $300, Android manufacturers will encounter an additional costly challenge at the core of their devices.

      This increased expense is likely to manifest in one of two ways. Brands may opt to raise their prices directly, or they could make "standard" flagships appear less premium by reserving the best chips, cameras, memory, and storage for Ultra models.
