The Samsung Galaxy S25 series has recently received the significant One UI 8.5 update in the United States.
One UI 8.5 has arrived for the Galaxy S25, and there’s plenty to look forward to.
Users of the Samsung Galaxy S25 in the United States are finally receiving the One UI 8.5 update. After being introduced on newer devices, the update is now reaching last year's Galaxy S25 series, and it comes with an impressive array of enhancements.
Reports from X indicate that users are receiving this update on their Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, so if you own one, it’s a good time to check your software update settings for the latest version.
What’s included in One UI 8.5?
One UI 8.5 introduces numerous new features along with various UI enhancements. The most significant visual update is the quick settings panel, where you can now easily grab, resize, and move individual controls. The volume and brightness sliders can now be oriented vertically, and the media controls are capable of expanding to a larger size.
The lock screen has also been upgraded. New animated clock fonts have been added, and a thickness slider allows you to adjust the appearance of the clock. Additionally, a weather toggle now displays live weather animations on your wallpaper, offering a small but enjoyable improvement.
One UI 8.5 also introduces several AI-driven photo editing tools, including features for erasing, moving, creating, and styling. The erase function cleanly removes objects, move allows repositioning of elements within a photo, create uses AI to add sketched objects, and style transforms selfies into cartoon-like versions.
Are there any features missing?
While last year’s Galaxy S25 models are finally receiving the One UI 8.5 update, there are still some drawbacks. Reports indicate that there are several features absent in One UI 8.5 that previous models do not have.
Users on Korean Samsung forums have identified up to nine features that are missing, with the most significant being the Now Nudge and the 24MP camera mode. Other notable omissions include Notification Highlights, a Finder shortcut on the Home Screen, Samsung Browser’s Ask AI, among others.
It seems that none of these features rely on the new hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. It appears that Samsung is simply withholding these features to encourage users to upgrade to newer devices.
I often criticize Apple for limiting new camera features to their latest iPhone models, and it now seems that Samsung is not only following that pattern but also taking it a step further.

The Razr Ultra 2026 is everything a flip phone should be, but I’m not spending $1,500 on it.
A flip phone shouldn’t cost this much. Priced at $1,500, the Razr Ultra finds itself in an uncomfortable competition against a multitude of other options for your money.
To be direct: $1,500 is a lot for the Razr Ultra, a clamshell phone that folds in half. This price point is hefty for any smartphone, especially considering that devices like the Galaxy S26 Ultra or iPhone 17 Pro Max are cheaper and can leave you with a few hundred dollars, while a couple of extra hundred dollars could buy you a full-style foldable.
For me, the Razr Ultra doesn't present a compelling argument at the $1,500 price point. On its own, it's a truly impressive flip phone that addresses all the essentials and provides the premium experience you'd anticipate at this cost. The Alcantara back, the 5,000-nit display, the silicon-carbon battery, and the dual rear cameras make for an impressive overview.
Apple’s iPhone 17 series has introduced one of the most useful upgrades to selfie cameras in recent memory, and it seems Android may be on track to offer an even superior alternative. A known tipster on Weibo has disclosed that at least one Android brand is developing a selfie camera setup akin to the Center Stage feature.
What’s special about Apple’s selfie enhancement?
Samsung’s experiment with tri-fold phones appears to be ongoing. A recent patent leak suggests the company is working on a follow-up to its Galaxy Z TriFold device, and the most intriguing aspect is the potential inclusion of an S Pen compartment integrated into one of the hinges, possibly addressing a longstanding issue with foldable designs.
