Character.AI has found itself in trouble once again, now embroiled in a groundbreaking lawsuit concerning AI doctors.

Character.AI is in legal trouble once more. The company is facing a lawsuit after one of its fictional bots reportedly posed as a medical professional. Previously, Character.AI implemented parental controls due to several lawsuits regarding inappropriate sexual content and messages related to self-harm.

Now, the administration of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has filed a lawsuit against Character Technologies, the parent company of Character.AI. The claim is that the platform permitted a chatbot to represent itself as a licensed medical professional in Pennsylvania.

BREAKING: @character_ai is unlawfully presenting a chatbot as a licensed medical professional in Pennsylvania — and we’re suing to halt this practice. Earlier this year, I announced a new state task force to investigate chatbots that impersonate licensed professionals. Our investigators…— Governor Josh Shapiro (@GovernorShapiro) May 5, 2026

      What issues arose with Character.AI?

The Pennsylvania Department of State filed the lawsuit after discovering that a Character.AI chatbot was claiming to be a licensed psychiatrist and even provided a fictitious Pennsylvania license number. The state alleges that the bot presented itself as a medical professional capable of offering psychiatric advice.

The Emilie chatbot from Character.AI allegedly claimed to be a psychology specialist and referred to itself as a doctor. When questioned about the possibility of assessing whether medication could be beneficial, the chatbot reportedly responded that it was authorized to do so as a doctor. This is where Pennsylvania contends that Character.AI overstepped its bounds. State officials argue that this behavior violates the Medical Practice Act, which governs who can identify themselves as licensed medical professionals in Pennsylvania.

      What is Character.AI's reply?

Character.AI is contesting the allegations by asserting that its bots are fictional. In a statement to CBS News, the company mentioned that it does not comment on ongoing litigation, while emphasizing that its user-generated characters are meant for entertainment and roleplay. The company also indicated that it uses disclaimers advising users not to depend on characters for professional advice. However, Pennsylvania's position is that such disclaimers are insufficient if a chatbot subsequently asserts that it is licensed to provide medical guidance.

The platform’s involvement in controversy is not a new occurrence. While facing lawsuits and criticism related to harmful interactions with minors, Congress has been moving towards regulating AI chatbot services such as Character.AI. If the bots persist in claiming false credentials, regulators may not view it as innocent roleplay.

The third-generation Tandem OLED technology promises over double the lifespan and 18% lower power consumption.

For years, OLED display owners have dealt with certain trade-offs: screens that dim over time, displays that struggle in bright environments, and laptops that run out of battery life quicker than expected. LG Display's latest OLED range, presented at SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles, targets all three concerns with a variety of new technologies across different product categories.

This indicates that the race for AI assistants is expanding well beyond Amazon’s own devices.

Amazon has officially expanded its AI assistant, Alexa+, beyond the company’s hardware. With the announcement of its Lifestyle Ultra speakers, Bose has also revealed that Alexa+ will be available on its range of speakers and soundbars across the United States.

This marks a first for any audio brand outside of Amazon. What particularly interests me is that the rollout includes both new and existing Bose devices.
