Anthropic integrates SpaceX computing resources and increases the rate limits for the Opus API.

Claude Code's five-hour rate limits will be doubled for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans starting Tuesday, while peak-hour throttling will be eliminated for Pro and Max users. This enhancement is made possible by a new agreement with Anthropic to utilize the entire compute capacity of SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center.

On Tuesday, Anthropic increased the rate limits for Claude Code and the Claude Opus API, implementing three immediate changes. The company has announced the doubling of Claude Code's five-hour rate limits across Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans; the removal of the peak-hours limit reduction for Claude Code on Pro and Max accounts; and substantial increases in API rate limits for Claude Opus models, with new limits now available.

The driving force behind these changes is a new computing agreement with SpaceX, which involves Anthropic securing the entire compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center—delivering over 300 megawatts of capacity and more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs within the month. This added capacity is expected to enhance services for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers significantly.

In its announcement, Anthropic also expressed a desire to collaborate with SpaceX on the development of several gigawatts of orbital AI computing capacity, although no agreements regarding this have been finalized.

The SpaceX agreement is part of a broader set of recently announced computing commitments. Anthropic has an agreement with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts, with nearly 1 GW of new capacity expected to be operational by the end of 2026; a 5 GW deal with Google and Broadcom, which will start coming online in 2027; a strategic partnership with Microsoft and Nvidia that includes $30 billion worth of Azure capacity; and a $50 billion investment in American AI infrastructure alongside Fluidstack.

Anthropic employs various hardware types, including AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, and Nvidia GPUs, to train and serve Claude. The company is actively seeking further opportunities to expand its capacity.

Some forthcoming expansions will occur internationally. Anthropic’s recent partnership with Amazon incorporates additional inference capacity in Asia and Europe, responding to enterprise clients in regulated sectors that require in-region infrastructure for compliance and data residency. Anthropic emphasizes a careful approach to capacity additions, partnering only with what it deems democratic nations whose legal and regulatory systems are conducive to substantial investments.

Additionally, the company reaffirmed its earlier commitment to address any increases in electricity prices for consumers caused by its U.S. data centers and is considering extending this commitment to new regions as it expands internationally.

For users, the main change is that Pro and Max subscribers will see the five-hour usage windows for Claude Code doubled, and the peak-hours throttling lifted, effective Tuesday. The rate-limit increases for the Opus API will also take effect on the same date.

Anthropic integrates SpaceX computing resources and increases the rate limits for the Opus API.

Anthropic has increased Claude Code's five-hour rate limits to double their previous amounts and has also raised the Opus API rate limits, attributing these changes to a new compute agreement with SpaceX for Colossus 1.
