Your nostalgic favorite is now on your wrist, and it also monitors your heart rate.
If you have fond memories of playing Mega Man 2 on the NES, then this smartwatch is just right for you.
The Mega Man: My Play Watch is a partnership between MyPlayWatch and Capcom, and it embodies exactly what it claims: a smartwatch that allows you to play a reimagined version of Mega Man 2 directly on your wrist.
But how does the gameplay work?
The gameplay has been completely redesigned for touchscreen interaction. Mega Man automatically runs through each level while you tap to shoot, time your jumps, and avoid obstacles. It may seem straightforward, but that’s intentional.
You won't be able to recreate the full NES experience on a 1.91-inch display, and the developers understand that. Instead, they've crafted something that captures the essence of the original game.
There are three modes to choose from. Classic Mode enables you to select Robot Master stages, defeat bosses, and ultimately access Dr. Wily’s Castle. Arcade Mode increases the speed and difficulty as you aim for high scores. Play Time Mode transforms the watch into an animated Mega Man display, which might be my personal favorite mode.
What other features does the watch offer?
Besides gaming, this watch is equipped with sensors to track your steps, heart rate, and calories throughout the day, all featuring Mega Man-themed visuals. The watch faces showcase pixel art and animated characters, ensuring it looks impressive even when not in gameplay.
The best aspect might be what it lacks. There are no Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi, no notifications, and no apps. It’s a streamlined, distraction-free device designed solely for gaming and health tracking.
In a world where everything seeks your attention, this simplicity is truly refreshing. The watch is currently available for pre-order at $79.99 on GameStop’s website.
