Motorola has introduced a budget phone featuring a 200MP camera.
Budget smartphones that come equipped with a strong camera, a bright AMOLED display, and reliable durability ratings are still relatively rare. With the Moto G87, Motorola aims to combine all three features into one affordable device.
The Moto G87 is equipped with a 200MP primary camera, a 5000-nit AMOLED display, and an IP69 rating, making it one of the most ambitious models in the Moto G lineup in recent years. Its release coincides with Motorola’s higher-end offerings, including the Razr Ultra 2026 and the brand's inaugural book-style foldable phone.
Does the 200MP camera give the Moto G87 a competitive edge?
At the forefront of the Moto G87's camera system is a 200MP main sensor, which includes optical image stabilization. This sensor employs 16x pixel binning to enhance low-light performance and allows for 2x lossless zoom. An 8MP ultrawide camera captures wider images, while a 32MP front-facing camera is designed for selfies. Integrated Google Photos features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Reimagine, and Auto Frame provide additional versatility.
While budget phones featuring 200MP cameras are becoming more common, simply having this number does not necessarily make the Moto G87 stand out. The quality of the camera is increasingly reliant on image processing and software optimization as much as on the size of the sensor or the megapixel count. Motorola has made significant improvements with its flagship camera experience, particularly with Motorola Signature, raising the question of whether some of this refinement has been transferred to the Moto G87.
What other features does it include?
The device boasts a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1.5K, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of up to 5000 nits. Durability is a significant aspect of the overall design, as the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Its water and dust resistance is rated at IP66, IP68, and IP69, and it is certified to withstand drops of up to 1.2 meters.
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 processor, the Moto G87 supports 5G and comes with up to 12GB of RAM. RAM Boost has the capability to expand available memory up to 24GB as required. The device is energized by a 5200mAh battery, which is compatible with 30W fast charging.
Additional features include dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio support, Hello UX, Moto Secure, and more. It comes preloaded with Android 16, alongside Gemini and Circle to Search. The device will be available in the EMEA and LATAM markets in the upcoming weeks, with a starting price of 399 euros. In the UK, it is listed for £349.99 on Motorola's website.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may enhance its zoom capability by addressing a significant limitation.
Samsung has been strong in the zoom category for years, but recently the competition has caught up and even surpassed it. Instead of enhancing the current hardware, the company might be looking to eliminate the problem completely. Recent leaks suggest that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could streamline its setup by omitting the small 3x telephoto sensor, effectively removing what the source refers to as a weak point in the zoom functionality.
