Motorola has just introduced a budget phone featuring a 200MP camera.
Budget smartphones with strong cameras, vibrant AMOLED displays, and solid durability ratings remain rare. With the Moto G87, Motorola aims to combine all three of these elements into one affordable device.
It boasts a 200MP primary camera, a 5000-nit AMOLED screen, and an IP69 rating, making it one of the most ambitious Moto G models in recent years. Its release coincides with Motorola's higher-end offerings, including the Razr Ultra 2026 and the company’s first book-style foldable phone.
Does a 200MP camera set the Moto G87 apart?
Motorola
At the forefront of the Moto G87’s camera system is a 200MP main sensor that includes optical image stabilization. This sensor utilizes 16x pixel binning to enhance performance in low light and allows for 2x lossless zoom. An 8MP ultrawide camera is included for capturing broader shots, and a 32MP front-facing camera is available for selfies. Built-in Google Photos features such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Reimagine, and Auto Frame offer additional versatility.
While budget smartphones with 200MP cameras are becoming more common, having a high megapixel count alone doesn't necessarily make the Moto G87 unique. The quality of the camera is now as dependent on image processing and software tuning as it is on the size of the sensor or megapixel count. Motorola has shown noticeable improvements in its flagship camera performance, particularly with Motorola Signature, raising the question of whether some of that camera refinement has been transferred to the Moto G87.
What other features does it provide?
The device features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.5K, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a maximum brightness of 5000 nits. Its durability is a significant aspect of the overall design, with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i safeguarding the display. It boasts an IP66, IP68, and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance, and it is certified to endure drops from heights of up to 1.2 meters.
Motorola
The Moto G87 is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6400 processor, offering 5G compatibility and up to 12GB of RAM. RAM Boost can expand the accessible memory up to 24GB as needed. The device is powered by a 5200mAh battery, which supports 30W fast charging.
Additional features include dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio support, Hello UX, Moto Secure, and more. It comes with Android 16 pre-installed, along with Gemini and Circle to Search. Availability will begin in the EMEA and LATAM markets in the upcoming weeks, with prices starting at 399 euros. The phone is also available on Motorola’s UK website for £349.99.
