Dark Mode on the Kindle Colorsoft isn’t merely a visual choice; it’s the feature that finally brings Amazon's high-end color e-reader up to par with the budget models that already offered it.
Amazon’s color Kindle range had notably lacked a system-wide dark mode, a feature that budget Kindle models have had for years. After recognizing this gap, the company has now made dark mode available for both the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.
Previously, the only way users could read comfortably at night on Kindle models was through the Page Color toggle, which reversed colors in supported books. However, once users exited the book and returned to the home screen, library, settings, or any other section, everything reverted to a glaring bright white.
Now, what can Colorsoft and Scribe users expect from dark mode?
The inconsistency between supported books and all other areas is now resolved. The system-wide dark mode is applicable to every page on the device, including the home screen, book library, settings menu, and Scribe workspace.
Moreover, users can choose where to enable dark mode. For example, if you want to keep notebooks in the standard bright mode while making everything else dark, this can be easily done with the new update. Simply swipe down from the top of the screen to toggle dark mode on or off in the Quick Actions section.
In addition to the system-wide dark mode for Kindles, Scribe Colorsoft and monochrome Kindle Scribe users are also receiving a new feature called Smart Shapes.
This feature adds essential pre-drawn shapes like lines, arrows, circles, triangles, and rectangles directly into the notebook toolbar. For those who prefer freehand drawing, the hold-to-snap function allows rough sketches to transform into neat shapes just by holding the stylus at the end of the stroke.
The rollout is currently underway and should reach all compatible devices within a few weeks. The Kindle Colorsoft debuted as Amazon's most exciting e-reader in years, but launching without a system-wide dark mode felt like an oversight. Fortunately, this update resolves that issue permanently.

Apple is finally developing an AI photo editor that Google and Samsung have had for several years now.
Apple's push for AI photo editing in iOS 27 is a timely move, arriving three years after Google's Magic Editor and following multiple iterations of Galaxy AI. Google's Photos app has been able to perform tasks that Apple's Photos app could not for years, and Apple has taken notice. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 will include a dedicated "Apple Intelligence Tools" section within the Photos editing interface.
This "Apple Intelligence Tools" section will feature three new AI-powered photo-editing options: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. All of these features will operate entirely on-device and, true to Apple's style, will complete edits in just seconds.
Shopping on Amazon has become significantly more conversational with the introduction of the Join the chat feature, which allows users to ask questions while listening to AI-generated product summaries.
The Join the chat feature is an enhancement to the existing Hear the highlights experience. For those unfamiliar, Hear the highlights is an AI-driven audio summary tool found on millions of product pages within the Amazon Shopping app, providing a brief audio summary of a product’s main features, compiled from product details, customer reviews, and other publicly available information.
Google Translate is celebrating its 20th anniversary by introducing a long-requested feature: a pronunciation practice tool with real-time AI feedback.
Now available on Android for English, Spanish, and Hindi in the US and India, this feature offers users a chance to practice their pronunciation. There hasn’t been any announcement yet regarding its expansion to other regions or availability on iOS.
