YouTube is evolving into an answer engine with the introduction of a new conversational search feature.
Google has infused YouTube search with some AI enhancement, and it seems to be effective.
YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S., aged 18 and up, can explore a new feature. According to The Verge, the platform is trialing a conversational AI search experience named Ask YouTube, which is a novel offering for the service.
So, what is Ask YouTube?
Rather than simply entering keywords into a search bar and waiting for results, you can now pose full questions to YouTube and receive responses that mimic a conversation. This feature can be activated through YouTube’s experimental functions.
Once enabled, you will see an Ask YouTube button integrated into the search bar. Clicking the search bar reveals suggested questions like “What caused the 2008 financial crisis?” or “How to fix a stripped screw.” These suggestions may be trending searches or tailored to your YouTube viewing history.
You can either choose from these trending questions or input your own query and click the Ask YouTube button to initiate the search. For example, when I searched for “prisoners’ dilemma,” YouTube provided a text summary followed by a featured video.
Subsequently, more videos appeared under various headings such as “step-by-step logic of the dilemma” and “real-world applications,” along with brief concept summaries via shorts.
I performed several searches and discovered that the results consisted of a blend of text summaries, long-form videos with timestamps relevant to specific sections, and collections of YouTube Shorts organized by theme. This offered a notably different experience compared to the typical search results page.
Does it function effectively?
In my limited trials, the AI search performed quite well. It furnished an overview of the topic along with pertinent videos, and I appreciated how it categorized them, providing insight into their contents.
As for whether it is superior or inferior to the conventional YouTube search, I cannot make a judgment just yet. I would need more time using it to form any definitive opinion.

Nvidia has discreetly introduced a new iteration of the GeForce RTX 5070 GPU within a driver blog post.
Also, having more VRAM doesn’t always equate to better performance, and the pricing may render the RTX 5070 Ti a more attractive option depending on final specifications.
Nvidia recently revealed a new GPU variant in an unusual manner: it's been hidden in a game driver update blog post. Alongside its Game Ready 596.36 WHQL driver release, the company confirmed the launch of a 12GB GDDR7 version of the GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU.
Dell 34 Plus USB-C monitor review: An ultrawide beauty with unexpected features.
Quick Take
I’ve grown quite wary of monitors that label themselves as “productivity displays.” They’re not necessarily bad; it’s just that many of them are conventional and slow to adopt modern standards. With bulky black bezels and a dull grey-on-grey corporate aesthetic that screams “I belong in a 2014 cubicle,” they lack appeal for my workspace. I’ve never wanted one on my desk. So when I unboxed the Dell 34 Plus USB-C monitor (model S3425DW), I was prepared for standard disappointment but was pleasantly surprised.
AI is making its way to Linux, but not in an irritating manner that will cause frustration.
Ubuntu’s AI plans sound surprisingly sensible this time.
Canonical is finally discussing AI, announcing that Ubuntu is preparing to incorporate AI features. However, the company’s approach seems more cautious than what is seen in other contexts. A recent announcement laid out its vision for AI in Ubuntu, which is notably measured. Canonical will not impose AI on every aspect of the operating system, choosing instead to keep user control intact.
