An iPhone Fold leak suggests a foldable device that may surpass current thinness expectations.
Apple's anticipated iPhone Fold might redefine standards with its surprisingly slim foldable design.
The latest leak has further detailed Apple’s long-speculated foldable iPhone, this time highlighting its thickness. Renders shared by South Korean leaker yeux1122 on Naver, reportedly coming from an Apple casing supplier, indicate that the device has a folded body thickness of approximately 9.23mm. This is thinner than the previously rumored 9.6mm.
These renders also suggest a maximum thickness of around 13mm when the camera area is considered, making the camera module a prominent aspect of the phone’s profile, even if the folded body remains impressively thin for a book-style foldable. The leak reiterates earlier reports that Apple is planning to offer two color options: silver and black.
How thin are we really talking?
To provide a comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when opened. Therefore, while Samsung's current foldable is slightly thinner in its folded state, the leaked thickness of the iPhone Fold brings it quite close to a well-established competitor.
Honor’s Magic V6 and the Oppo Find N6 also exhibit similar slimness to their Samsung counterpart, and soon, to Apple as well. Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to measure 9.8mm folded and 4.3mm unfolded, meaning that Apple’s inaugural foldable iPhone could be thinner, at least before factoring in the camera bump.
What else is known?
Reports surrounding Apple’s foldable indicate a book-style design with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen, which will provide a tablet-like experience when opened. Additionally, a recent claim by Weibo leaker Instant Digital suggested that the Camera Control button might be included despite the slim build.
On the software side, it could incorporate some multitasking features from iPadOS, although significant functionalities like Stage Manager are unlikely to appear on the foldable. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but current reports suggest a starting price above $2,000. Apple is aiming for a September 2026 launch for the iPhone Fold, although initial availability may be limited, potentially causing it to be released after the iPhone 18 Pro models.
