The Lands Between is set to hit theaters, and now we have a release date. A24 and Bandai Namco have confirmed that Alex Garland’s live-action adaptation of Elden Ring will premiere in theaters on March 3, 2028. Filming is currently underway in the UK, and the movie will be filmed in IMAX.
Who is part of the Elden Ring movie cast?
The complete cast is now announced, with Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw headlining the film. Joining them are Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Garland reportedly made a personal proposal to Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to secure this project, highlighting his strong interest in the film. He is responsible for both writing and directing, and considering his previous work on Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War, the collaboration appears promising.
What is the Elden Ring movie about?
For those who are not aware, Elden Ring is a 2022 open-world action RPG developed by FromSoftware, set in a vast dark fantasy realm known as the Lands Between. Players assume the role of a Tarnished, a socially marginalized character summoned back to mend a broken artifact known as the Elden Ring and to achieve the status of Elden Lord.
Details regarding the plot of the movie have not yet been revealed, so it remains unclear how closely Garland’s screenplay will align with the game's narrative.
What makes it particularly intriguing as a film adaptation is its underlying lore. George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire and the mind behind Game of Thrones, contributed to the game's backstory and is also producing the film alongside Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.
Video game adaptations are experiencing a notable surge in Hollywood, as evidenced by Sony's recent announcements of a Metal Gear Solid film and an animated Bloodborne project in development.
