Samsung is reportedly developing another TriFold phone, this time featuring a wide screen design.

A recently uncovered patent indicates that Samsung is developing a tri-fold phone with a wide screen format, which, if it reaches the market, would be one of the most ambitious foldable designs the company has attempted so far.
The ambitious aspect
The patent that has gained significant attention is for a device Samsung refers to as the Galaxy Z Tri-Fold Wide, which pushes the concept of wider foldability even further. This device features two hinges and three panels, and when fully opened, it resembles a compact tablet more than a traditional phone, representing a notable shift from Samsung’s current Fold design.

When folded, the device forms a thick yet manageable shape, with one panel visible on the outside acting as a cover display. The back of this outer panel includes a triple-camera system, and the overall frame appears intentionally robust, likely to ensure the reliability of the two hinges through countless folds. The most striking feature, however, is the tent mode. Samsung’s patent illustrations depict the device set up in a triangular form, standing independently like a small desk display. This setup opens up a variety of use cases such as hands-free video watching, displaying widgets, checking notifications quickly, or serving as a small secondary screen on a desk.
Should you be enthusiastic?
While patents are just that—patents—and Samsung files many that never become actual products, it's more plausible that the immediate focus remains on the Fold 8 and its wider counterpart. The tri-fold wide feels more like a glimpse into Samsung’s future aspirations rather than a product set to hit shelves soon.
Nonetheless, with competitors already launching tri-fold devices and Samsung feeling the pressure to advance foldable technology, it would be unwise to completely disregard this development. Samsung is typically cautious about such innovations, and the fact that they are patenting a wider tri-fold design indicates their roadmap extends well beyond this year's announcements.
