Google has released a new Android Canary build, showcasing a variety of UI changes.
The Android Canary build 2604 has been released, featuring some subtle yet enjoyable changes.
Google has rolled out Android Canary build 2604 (ZP11.260320.007), which introduces a handful of new experimental features. Firstly, it’s important to note that Canary builds are not intended for regular use. They may be buggy and unstable, and features introduced in these versions might not always appear in the final stable release.
For developers looking to test new builds and stay ahead of future updates, Canary builds are a perfect choice. However, if you are an everyday Android user, it’s advisable to install it only on a secondary device instead of your primary phone.
Android Canary 2604 is now accessible for those who enjoy being at the forefront of technology 😎 Like previous builds, this one is highly experimental! Changes are likely! This release offers support for system images across a wide range of Pixel devices, from the Pixel 8 to the Pixel 10 Pro, covering most recent Pixel users.
So, what’s new?
Mishaal Rahman from Google reports that two new UI modifications are under trial with this build.
The first change involves an update to the notification shade. After clearing all notifications, users will see a “You’re all caught up” message instead of “No notifications.” This is a small yet more personable touch that enhances user experience.

The second change pertains to the app shortcuts menu. When you long-press an app icon, you will see that the shortcuts menu is now collapsed by default. If you tap to expand the shortcuts, the actions menu will automatically collapse.

This adjustment aims to streamline the interface and prevent users from feeling overwhelmed, particularly with apps that present numerous options at once.
However, it does add an extra step for users who regularly utilize shortcuts, as they will need to tap to expand the shortcut menu first.
Will these modifications make it to the stable version of Android?
That’s the uncertainty with Canary builds. There are no assurances. It all depends on how testers respond to these features.
If you wish to try these features on your device, keep in mind that flashing a Canary build means you cannot revert to a stable version without performing a full data wipe. So, proceed with caution before you install it.
