A new free Borderlands game has just silently launched on the iPhone.
Borderlands Mobile has officially launched on iPhone as an unexpected free-to-play title.
A new Borderlands game has appeared suddenly, targeting mobile devices this time. 2K has discreetly released this free-to-play looter shooter, developed by Zynga. The game comes without the standard large announcement, trailer, or marketing campaign. However, this isn't considered a full official release either.
What is it?
Borderlands Mobile
Borderlands Mobile is presented as a mobile-centric "epic looter shooter" that maintains the essential Borderlands gameplay. Players assume the role of a Vault Hunter, aiming to gather outrageous weapons, combat skags, bandits, and bosses, and pursue legendary loot through various mission types like Campaign Missions, Tower of Terror, and Circle of Slaughter.
It seems designed specifically for mobile devices, attempting to retain the franchise's distinctive cel-shaded graphics, chaotic shooting mechanics, and obsession with loot in a more compact and faster format.
Currently an iPhone-exclusive release
Borderlands Mobile by Zynga
The listing on the App Store clarifies the current platform situation. Borderlands Mobile is designated as “Only for iPhone,” available for free, and requires iOS 18 or later. Zynga Inc. is listed as the developer, and the download size is 2.9GB. As this is a soft launch, both regional availability and platform support are limited.
This game appears to be exclusively available on the App Store for iOS users in the United States, with no official Google Play release for Android users at this time.
In an official statement, 2K referred to “Borderlands Mobile” as a placeholder title, indicating that it is merely a “limited-time” test being conducted by Zynga, with Gearbox providing creative direction regarding the franchise's background, design, and lore.
