A leak of a dummy iPhone fold reveals a device unlike any currently available.
Apple's inaugural foldable device is broader, shorter, and more akin to an iPad than anything Samsung has attempted.
Recent dummy models of the iPhone Fold, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max have emerged, largely confirming previous leaks. Apple is opting for a book-style foldable rather than another tall, narrow variant, aiming to enhance the tablet-like experience when the device is opened.
In examining the dummy models, the iPhone Fold exhibits a notably wide, compact form, appearing shorter and wider than any device in Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, resembling the original Pixel Fold more closely. When unfolded, it resembles a small landscape-oriented iPad.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max dummy models have a more conventional look, featuring a triple camera setup on the rear and a centrally located MagSafe ring. There is a suggestion of a smaller Dynamic Island, but this remains uncertain.
What features come with the new iPhone Fold?
According to prior CAD designs, the iPhone Fold includes a camera module with two cameras, an LED flash, and a microphone. Leaks indicate it will have a sizable 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.3-inch cover display.
The cover display will have rounded edges and a centered hole-punch cutout, marking a first for iPhones. Upon opening the device, a large folding display extends to the rounded corners, featuring slim bezels and a hole-punch camera located in the top-left corner.
The dummies do not display any cutouts for the punch-hole cameras, leaving the exact dimensions of the cutout unverified.
When will it be available?
Reports indicate that Foxconn has initiated early-stage trial production, with suppliers predicting a release in the second half of 2026.
However, analyst Tim Long anticipates that the iPhone Fold will be revealed during Apple's September event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, with shipments starting in December.
Apple is also said to be integrating foldable-specific features into iOS 27, which will include split-screen functionality and a multitasking experience reminiscent of the iPad.
If you’re considering a purchase, it might be wise to start saving, as the price is expected to exceed $2,000.
