If you're relying on AI to improve your dating life, this actor's experience suggests otherwise.
This actor turned to AI for dating, but received a reality check instead.
If you believe AI can improve your dating experiences, Rhik Samadder’s recent experiment might just be the wake-up call you need.
In his latest article, Samadder decided to let AI manage his romantic life as part of a broader six-week trial. He handed over various aspects of his daily routine to AI chatbots, including crafting his dating profile, assisting with messages, selecting his attire, and even providing conversation starters during an actual date. The outcome, however, was less about romantic connection and more akin to a social disaster.
How bad could it really be?
The initial warning came quickly. Samadder had the AI draft his dating profile, resulting in a polished and quirky description about being a “creative type with nerd firmware” who brings “plot twists.” This immediately raised concerns, but the unease intensified when the chatbot began dictating the actual conversation.
To his credit, Samadder was honest with his date about the experiment. He informed her that AI would help craft his messages, select the venue, and provide conversation prompts. She agreed to participate, which is more generous than most might have been.
The real issue lay not in the words, but in the vibe.
Once the date commenced, the chatbot’s suggestions became increasingly awkward. Samadder complimented his date’s hair by stating it had “pure A24 energy,” and when she looked puzzled, he had to turn away and ask the AI for clarification. Later, he tried another AI-generated line about television pioneer John Logie Baird living in her area, which also fell flat.
His date quickly identified the problem. She remarked that the AI-generated messages seemed emotionally astute, yet lacked authenticity. She perfectly encapsulated it by saying, “You sound like a therapist who’s been struck off.”
The lesson is evident. While AI can imitate confidence, it cannot generate chemistry.
