      China has a reputation for producing affordable products, and electric vehicles are no different. Offering a feature-rich EV for $6,200 with a range of 190 miles and charming aesthetics is certainly enough to attract attention without straining finances.

      Introducing the 2026 Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, a car that not only underprices its rivals but also makes them seem like they’re charging way too much. The automaker launched this model in late March 2026, presenting four variants priced between approximately $6,200 and $7,600, before subsidies.

      So, what does a price of $6,200 actually get you?

      A significant amount, actually. The 2026 version features a redesigned exterior, which Wuling describes as “sweet square.” It has a boxy yet endearing look, highlighted by circular LED headlights that appear to be perpetually astonished.

      Inside, a 10.1-inch touchscreen is positioned above a dashboard equipped with more than a dozen storage compartments, perhaps indicating that the manufacturer believes commuters have plenty of belongings. A column-mounted gear selector clears up space in the center console.

      The HVAC system also includes remote climate control, ideal for hot summer days. If you need to transport a considerable load, the rear seats fold flat to create 838 liters of cargo space (which is quite substantial). Fast charging allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes.

      Why is this small EV noteworthy?

      Here’s the most intriguing aspect. The top-of-the-line Hongguang Mini EV boasts a range of up to 187 miles (about 301 kilometers) based on China’s CLTC, which may equate to roughly 130 miles under the EPA standard (though this is just an estimate based on trends).

      Regardless, this range is sufficient for daily commuters, errands, office trips, and the occasional short road outings. I mention this because Wuling’s Hongguang Mini EV ended 2025 as the second best-selling battery-powered EV in China, achieving a 55% year-on-year sales increase to 427,000 units, surpassing Tesla’s Model Y.
