AMD’s newest Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 pushes the boundaries of X3D technology.

Dual 3D V-Cache, increased power, and a focus on enthusiast performance

AMD has introduced what could be its most extreme desktop CPU to date, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which emphasizes cache technology.

💥 We extended the limits of desktop performance with X3D, then pushed them even further. I have personally tested the upcoming Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition in the lab, and it is remarkable. This is the world's first desktop CPU featuring dual @AMD 3D V-Cache, offering a total of 208MB of cache... pic.twitter.com/Cm5mfSkeQm— Jack Huynh (@jackhuynh) March 26, 2026

Building upon the existing AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, the new processor features a dual 3D V-Cache design, meaning both core chiplets (CCDs) are equipped with stacked cache, unlike previous models that had it on just one. This results in an impressive 208MB of total cache, one of the highest amounts found in a consumer CPU.

      What sets the 9950X3D2 apart?

At its core, this remains a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 processor, akin to the standard 9950X3D. The major alteration lies in the way AMD is managing cache this time. Historically, X3D chips applied the additional 3D V-Cache to only one CCD, which allowed for a balance between performance and clock speeds.

      AMD

The 9950X3D2 reverses that method by allocating stacked cache to both CCDs, thereby effectively doubling the accessible L3 cache to around 192MB, raising the total cache to 208MB. However, this comes with a trade-off, as it increases the TDP to 200W, making it one of AMD's more power-intensive desktop processors.

Why is all this cache important?

Cache serves as a performance shortcut, especially in gaming. By expanding L3 cache, the CPU can access frequently used data more quickly, minimizing memory latency and enhancing performance in CPU-intensive situations like esports games and expansive open-world titles. With the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 bolstering cache across both chiplets, AMD clearly aims to extract even more performance, although there is a limit beyond which adding more cache yields diminishing returns depending on the workload.

      AMD

That said, this chip is not intended for everyone. It is designed for enthusiasts, high-performance gamers, and tech-savvy users seeking top-notch performance without regard for power consumption or cost. With its elevated TDP and specific target audience, the 9950X3D2 feels more like a showcase product, highlighting what is achievable rather than catering to the needs of most users.

From a broader perspective, this CPU appears to be AMD testing the limits of X3D technology on Zen 5. It is less about replacing existing products and more about exploring the potential of cache-driven performance ahead of Zen 6. While AMD has not disclosed the pricing yet, the chip is set to launch on April 22nd. This development further reinforces AMD's strong commitment to cache as a competitive advantage in gaming.

A coding oversight is exposing API keys across thousands of websites

Security vulnerabilities that are easier to overlook than you might think

After examining 10 million webpages, researchers have discovered numerous websites inadvertently revealing sensitive API credentials, including keys associated with major services such as Amazon Web Services, Stripe, and OpenAI. This is a significant concern because APIs form the backbone of the applications we use today. They enable websites to connect to essential services like payment processing, cloud storage, and AI tools, but they depend on digital keys for security. When API keys are exposed, it allows anyone to interact with those services with potentially harmful intentions.

Next-gen AI breakthrough promises chatbots that can better understand context

Researchers are training AI chatbots to grasp subtleties

Have you ever asked a chatbot something and felt it completely missed your point? You express a thought with some nuance, and the AI fails to pick up on the subtlety. This is precisely the issue researchers are attempting to address. Even though many users find emotional engagement with AI deeper than that with humans, most AI systems currently interpret a sentence as a single block of sentiment. When a statement contains both praise and criticism, the nuance is often lost.
