In classic Motorola style, the Razr series has been leaked once again, this time giving us our first clear view of the Razr 70 Ultra. The images are provided by XpertPick in partnership with Steve Hemmerstoffer, also recognized as OnLeaks on X (formerly Twitter).
Is there anything new here?
The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra isn’t exactly making waves. As per Steve Hemmerstoffer, it’s reported to be about 9.6mm thick, including the camera bump, and around 17.63mm when folded, which includes the cameras. Therefore, you shouldn't expect a significantly different feel compared to last year’s Razr 60 Ultra. Visually, it's the same narrative. You still have that large 7-inch foldable display inside and a 4-inch cover screen outside. This sounds great, but upon reflection… it feels quite familiar.
At this stage, it’s tough to shake the impression that Motorola is sticking to a safe formula. There's no striking redesign or significant change, nothing that compels you to take a closer look. Based on what we've seen thus far, this seems less like a new generation and more like a minor update with a fresh label.
So, what’s my personal opinion?

To be honest, there's nothing here that truly exclaims “new.” From the evidence we have, the Razr 70 Ultra appears nearly identical to its precursor, the Razr 60 Ultra. I’m open to seeing what Motorola has in store regarding internal specs, performance, and software features — these can still play a crucial role. However, based on past experiences, this could just be another example of recycling designs.
Sticking with a familiar design isn’t inherently negative. There’s an appeal to familiarity, and if something works, there’s little need for change. However, there's a delicate balance between maintaining consistency and becoming complacent, and this is where things start to seem a bit too cautious. At some point, one expects a brand to innovate, especially in a dynamic category like foldables. Let’s be honest, without genuine innovation, it’s challenging to take these devices seriously. With competition steadily increasing, a conservative approach year after year may not be the most viable long-term strategy.
Currently, there's no official announcement on the launch date for the Razr 70 Ultra. If Motorola adheres to its typical strategy, we can expect its initial release in China, followed by a broader distribution to other markets soon after.
