WWDC 2026: Our expectations for Apple’s event this June

Apple has officially confirmed the dates for its annual developer conference — WWDC 2026 — which sets the stage for the new versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS that will launch for everyone in September 2026.

In addition to the standard operating system updates, this event is also crucial for showcasing Apple's advancements in AI. Unlike last year, the company may reveal some new hardware as well, which adds to the excitement.

When will Apple hold WWDC 2026?

      Apple

WWDC 2026 is scheduled to occur from June 8 to June 12, 2026, as announced by Apple. Among the various events, the keynote on June 8 at 10 AM PT is the most significant.

We anticipate that Apple will begin the keynote with remarks from Tim Cook, followed by Apple's SVP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, and other executives involved in the new developments.

On that same day, Apple will hold the Platforms State of the Union, as well as in-person events with developers and students. Technical sessions, interactive labs, and one-on-one meetings with developers will take place until June 12, 2026.

Apple's intelligence will enhance with Siri 2.0

      Apple

Apple has been vocal about creating a smarter AI experience over the last couple of years, but execution has been an issue. However, WWDC 2026 could be the turning point.

A significant feature of the event might be "Campos," a completely redesigned Siri (or Siri 2.0). This new version of the voice assistant is expected to provide a genuine chatbot experience, seamlessly integrated into the forthcoming operating systems (iOS 27 and more).

The new Siri should be able to search web listings, generate images, summarize information, read uploaded files, and carry out tasks using your personal data stored on the device.

Moreover, it is expected to include an on-screen awareness feature that allows Siri to understand what is displayed on your screen and offer relevant suggestions or answers.

Apple's updated Siri will utilize a custom language model based on Google’s Gemini, effectively combining Apple's front-end capabilities with Google's back-end technology. It is also rumored to undergo a visual redesign, resembling an animated character with a "Clippy-like" personality.

In addition to the new Siri, Apple is anticipated to introduce Core AI, a major upgrade to Core ML that will enhance developer tools for running large language and diffusion models directly on devices.

iOS 27: A "Snow Leopard" update

If iOS 26 is seen as Apple’s most significant update in recent years, iOS 27 is expected to be a quieter, more polished sequel. The engineering team has been directed to meticulously refine the operating system, eliminate bugs, rewrite old code, and create a more streamlined experience. This could lead to notable improvements in battery life, even for older iPhone models.

While the Liquid Glass design language will remain, iOS 27 is rumored to introduce a customization slider that lets users adjust the intensity of the transparent glass effect—a feature initially shelved during the iOS 26 cycle.

iOS 27 is also set to prepare the operating system for the expected iPhone Fold, potentially introducing side-by-side multitasking for the first time, revamping first-party app layouts for the larger inner display, and enhancing touch interaction across the system.

Regarding apps, a redesigned Calendar with AI integration and smarter Photo collections may appear, according to leaks. Another significant update could involve support for satellite-based 5G connectivity, likely launching with the iPhone 18 Pro, enabling Apple Maps navigation and the ability to send photos/videos via satellite.

In terms of compatibility, the iPhone 11 series seems to be nearing the end of its support, having received updates for six years.

Updates for other platforms: iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and visionOS 27

      Apple

Similar to iOS 27, all other software platforms will focus on refinement, stability, and deeper Siri integration.

iPadOS 27 may receive Siri 2.0, the customization slider for the Liquid Glass effect, and will likely take advantage of new app layout APIs designed for the iPhone Fold. However, iPadOS 27 appears to be the least feature-rich among them.

In contrast, macOS 27 has a lot to discuss. This release marks the end of Intel Macs, as recent rumors suggest that macOS 27 will exclusively run on Apple Silicon (M1 or later), completing the transition Apple began in 2020. This version will also be the last to support Rosetta 2, ensuring that Intel apps are not immediately left unsupported.

Alongside general optimizations, macOS will also receive a Snow Leopard-style overhaul with app-based enhancements. A notable update is the touch optimization for the rumored MacBook Pro variant with a touchscreen, hinting at its timely launch within the macOS
