Claude can now manage tasks on your PC independently without the complicated OpenClaw setup.
OpenClaw made a significant impact upon its release, showcasing the possibility of a genuine personal assistant capable of performing intricate commands on a computer.
However, OpenClaw may not be suitable for everyone. Its setup can be challenging, and there are various safety concerns, making it more appropriate for those with technical expertise. A more suitable alternative for the average user is Claude Cowork, recently introduced by Anthropic.
Claude Cowork can execute tasks on your computer similar to OpenClaw, but it does not require a complicated setup and is designed with security in mind. This feature is currently available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers on macOS and Windows systems.
How does it function?
Claude Cowork can access files, browse the internet, navigate through applications, and use developer tools—all without the need for intricate setup. Once you grant it access to your files and specify your command, it gets to work.
Claude
Claude instinctively seeks the best integration first. If a connector exists for services like Gmail, Google Drive, or Slack, it will utilize that. In cases where no connector is available, Claude takes control, managing your browser, mouse, and keyboard to perform the task. It always requests permission before engaging with a new app or file, and you can interrupt it anytime.

For instance, I can instruct Claude Cowork to resize all images in a specific folder, rename files, or search the internet for a list of the top ice cream shops in my locality, and it will accomplish all of that without requiring further input from me.
Can you operate it from your phone?
Absolutely, and this is where it becomes truly exciting. Claude Dispatch, a newly launched app by Anthropic, allows you to send commands to the Claude desktop from your mobile device.
You can assign a task from the office and return home to find it completed. Cowork also has memory, so it retains context across sessions and learns your working style over time.
For developers, Claude Channels provides an additional layer of functionality. You can directly push events such as chat messages or monitoring alerts into your Claude Code session from applications like Telegram or Discord.
Claude
You can also schedule tasks. Instruct Claude to summarize your emails each morning, compile a weekly report, or track industry news on a set schedule. Claude takes care of it automatically and sends you a notification when the task is complete.
What does this mean for you?
Claude Cowork bridges the gap between present capabilities and future possibilities, where a digital personal assistant can autonomously manage tasks for us. While there are valid concerns regarding AI, this development is both promising and beneficial.
