The emergence of bots is transforming the internet

The online experience you encounter daily may soon be significantly influenced by artificial intelligence. Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, indicates that AI bots could surpass human-generated traffic within the next year or two, signaling a significant change in the functioning of the web.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Prince discussed the rapid increase in bot activity as AI systems extensively navigate and engage with websites.

Previously, before the advent of generative AI, bots accounted for only 20% of web traffic, primarily driven by search engines like Google and certain malicious actions. Now, that percentage is rising at a much faster pace.

What is driving the rapid growth of AI bot traffic?

Prince attributes this increase to the operational capabilities of AI systems. He explains that while a human might visit a few websites to accomplish a task, an AI agent can access thousands of pages in mere seconds to gather the necessary information and complete the same task.

This results in a substantial surge in traffic. AI systems are consistently scanning and gathering data to operate, generating significantly more requests than human users could ever achieve. This escalating demand is what could lead to bot traffic exceeding human activity in the years ahead.

How sandboxing could assist in managing the AI traffic surge

Prince suggests that this evolution will necessitate entirely new systems designed for AI. One proposed solution involves creating temporary ‘sandboxes’ where AI agents could carry out tasks and then shut down once they are done.

For instance, if you were to ask an AI to plan a vacation, it could create a specific environment to explore, compare, and organize information before disappearing.

These sandboxed environments would enable bots to execute tasks without overwhelming websites or infrastructure.

Prince envisions millions of these sandboxes being generated every second. However, managing traffic at this scale would also require significant infrastructure improvements, including more data centers and servers to support ongoing AI activities.

For Prince, this is beyond just another tech trend. He stated, “I think the thing that people don’t appreciate about AI is it’s a platform shift,” likening it to the transition from desktop to mobile. “AI is another platform shift … the way that you’re going to consume information is completely different.”

iOS 26.4 introduces mood-based Music widgets to your iPhone’s home screen

The new Ambient Music widgets in iOS 26.4 transform your iPhone Home Screen into a convenient mood board — but only for Apple Music subscribers.

If you’ve ever unlocked your iPhone late at night seeking a sleep playlist while drowsy, Apple’s iOS 26.4 simplifies this process. The iOS 26.4 release candidate has been unveiled, and among its multiple enhancements, it features Ambient Music widgets. These allow you to play mood-based playlists with a single tap directly from your home screen (via the widget).

Microsoft is trimming down Copilot "bloat" in Windows 11

The company states it will be more deliberate regarding AI integration.

Microsoft is reevaluating the extent of AI integration in Windows 11, leading to a reduction in Copilot features. As part of its overarching initiative to enhance Windows quality, the company is minimizing the number of Copilot access points across the operating system and associated applications.

According to Microsoft, this adjustment will initiate with applications like Photos, Notepad, Widgets, and the Snipping Tool, where Copilot features had become excessive. This change reflects a broader strategy shift at Microsoft, focusing on thoughtful AI integration rather than pervasive embedding throughout the system.

Windows 11 aims for efficiency comparable to MacBook Neo, starting with memory optimization

Microsoft is working to lower RAM usage to make 8GB systems more feasible.

Microsoft is finally addressing one of Windows 11’s most enduring issues: performance, particularly on budget machines. As part of its commitment to enhancing Windows quality, the company is actively working to reduce resource consumption, enhance responsiveness, and optimize memory efficiency throughout the OS. The goal is straightforward: to make Windows feel swifter and more dependable, even on limited hardware. This objective is increasingly crucial.

Why is Microsoft prioritizing memory now?
