Previously, before the advent of generative AI, bots accounted for only 20% of web traffic, primarily driven by search engines like Google and certain malicious actions. Now, that percentage is rising at a much faster pace.

Prince attributes this increase to the operational capabilities of AI systems. He explains that while a human might visit a few websites to accomplish a task, an AI agent can access thousands of pages in mere seconds to gather the necessary information and complete the same task.
This results in a substantial surge in traffic. AI systems are consistently scanning and gathering data to operate, generating significantly more requests than human users could ever achieve. This escalating demand is what could lead to bot traffic exceeding human activity in the years ahead.
How sandboxing could assist in managing the AI traffic surge
Prince suggests that this evolution will necessitate entirely new systems designed for AI. One proposed solution involves creating temporary ‘sandboxes’ where AI agents could carry out tasks and then shut down once they are done.
For instance, if you were to ask an AI to plan a vacation, it could create a specific environment to explore, compare, and organize information before disappearing.
These sandboxed environments would enable bots to execute tasks without overwhelming websites or infrastructure.
Prince envisions millions of these sandboxes being generated every second. However, managing traffic at this scale would also require significant infrastructure improvements, including more data centers and servers to support ongoing AI activities.
For Prince, this is beyond just another tech trend. He stated, “I think the thing that people don’t appreciate about AI is it’s a platform shift,” likening it to the transition from desktop to mobile. “AI is another platform shift … the way that you’re going to consume information is completely different.”
