Google Messages introduces two features that your group chats have been longing for.
Google Messages has rolled out two significant quality-of-life improvements that address two commonly experienced issues in group chats.
If you’ve ever sent a message in a busy Google Messages group and watched it disappear without acknowledgment, you’re not alone. Those overlooked messages can easily get lost among others' texts, reactions, or GIFs, often requiring you to resend them.
Fortunately, Google has listened to users' frustrations. After extensive beta testing, Google Messages has introduced a highly useful feature for group chats: Mentions.
How do ‘@’ Mentions operate?
As the name implies, this feature allows you to tag someone in an RCS-enabled group chat by using the ‘@’ symbol. When you tag someone in the group, they will receive a notification, even if they have muted the chat.
No longer will you receive a “sorry, missed that” response from the person your message was intended for. You can also mention several people in a single message. Additionally, Google allows you to edit the saved name of the recipient in real-time directly from the message text field.
Moreover, along with Mentions, Google Messages has introduced a new Trash folder that alleviates the issue of accidentally deleting an entire conversation with a single tap. This Trash folder replaces the immediate Delete action with the more familiar “Move to Trash” option.
It also includes a quick Undo feature, enabling you to restore any mistakenly deleted messages. Messages will remain in the Trash for 30 days before they are permanently deleted. However, on Android Go devices, this time frame is shortened to seven days to conserve storage.
You can find the Trash folder under Archive in the top-right profile menu, and it offers a one-tap restore option to bring conversations back to your inbox with full history. There’s also a permanent delete option if you wish to erase them entirely.
Despite the announcement, it seems these features may not yet be available to all users, so if you can’t access them, your group chat struggles will have to wait a bit longer.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy foldables could receive a boost in charging speeds
Recent leaks indicate possible changes to charging speeds in the next generation of foldable phones from Samsung. Certification listings uncovered by SammyGuru show that devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new “Wide Fold” model have appeared in China’s 3C database, suggesting potential enhancements in charging capabilities. These listings typically disclose wired charging specs prior to launch, serving as an early sign of expectations, but the "upgrades" may not be as substantial as anticipated.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro may enhance its camera features with Halide-inspired functionalities
Apple is reportedly considering a significant upgrade for the iPhone’s camera, focusing not only on hardware improvements. According to The Information, Apple looked into acquiring Lux Optics, the developers of the well-regarded Halide camera app, to elevate the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera functionalities. Though discussions took place in 2025 and resulted in no deal, Apple’s aim is clear: to enhance its default Camera app to compete with professional tools as its hardware continues to advance.
Google will continue to allow sideloading apps, but with a complication
With the new Android developer verification rules, concerns have arisen about Google potentially eliminating the ability to sideload Android apps. However, Google reassures users that this is not the case.
