A Sony leak generates excitement around enhanced noise cancellation features in the forthcoming WF-1000XM6 earbuds.
Leaked information indicates that Sony's upcoming flagship earbuds may feature significant improvements in noise cancellation, sound quality, and smart audio functionalities.
Ahead of the official launch scheduled for February 12, 2026, a French outlet has disclosed the primary specifications of Sony’s WF-1000XM6 TWS earbuds. According to Dealabs, the new model will incorporate a QN3e chipset that is three times faster than that of the XM5s.
In addition to eight adaptive microphones (including beamforming and bone conduction), an increase from six in the previous model, this chipset is expected to provide enhanced, more responsive, and effective active noise cancellation (ANC).
A quicker processor for superior silence
Furthermore, the new model may introduce an “Adaptive NC Optimizer” feature that adjusts the noise-cancellation level based on the user’s surroundings, optimizing performance dynamically.
Similar to the XM5s, the XM6 will likely feature three main listening modes: Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound Mode, and a standard mode (with no cancellation or passthrough). Additionally, improvements in noise cancellation are anticipated, possibly bringing it closer to the performance of the AirPods Pro 3.
The report also highlights a new speaker or audio driver designed to provide richer audio than the 8.4mm Dynamic Driver X found in the XM5s. Sony might also include an updated Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) and a better amplifier.
Sound enhancements beyond ANC
On the software side, the premium earbuds could feature DSEE Ultimate support, a more advanced upscaling technology compared to the DSEE Extreme present in the XM5s, enhancing both the sample rate frequency and bit depth of compressed audio files.
Expect additional capabilities such as adaptive sound control, Quick Attention mode, background music effects, and Speak to Chat. The device should also support LE Audio and Auracast.
You may also find features like Spatial Audio with Head Tracking, new audio modes, Bluetooth v5.3 (with multi-point connectivity), compatibility with Hi-Res Wireless (LDAC) codec, and a 10-band equalizer in the Headphones Connect app for personalized sound tuning.

Pricing for the Sony WF-1000XM6 will be $80 more than the AirPods Pro 3
In terms of battery life, the Sony WF-1000XM6 is anticipated to last up to eight hours on a single charge (likely with ANC activated) and up to 24 hours when used with the charging case, which offers both fast and wireless charging capabilities.
Following their launch on February 12, 2026, the Sony WF-1000XM6 are expected to retail in the U.S. for $329.99, available in Black and Silver finishes, which positions them at a higher price point than the AirPods Pro 3.
