Here's how the Privacy Display feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra may safeguard your screen from unwanted viewers.
This feature could potentially render privacy screen protectors obsolete.
Samsung is reportedly set to introduce a new privacy feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra aimed at helping users keep on-screen information confidential from prying eyes. Mentions of this feature first appeared in a leaked internal version of One UI 8.5 last year. Although Samsung has not yet made any official announcements, a recent report has provided insights into how the "Privacy Display" feature might function.
In September, code discovered in the leaked One UI 8.5 version indicated that this feature would restrict screen visibility from side angles. It also suggested that the feature would activate automatically when using sensitive applications in crowded environments. Now, SammyGuru has found a new page in Samsung’s updated Tips app that reveals additional details.
According to the app, users can enable the Privacy Display feature either through the display section of the Settings app or via a Quick Settings toggle. Furthermore, users can set it to activate automatically while utilizing specific apps or through a notification pop-up.
The app also contains an animation demonstrating how the feature works, showing that the screen appears normal when viewed head-on but dims when viewed from an angle. While users could achieve similar effects by applying a privacy screen protector to any device, Samsung’s software-based solution is expected to offer several key benefits.
Advantages over privacy screen protectors
By integrating this feature into the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung will eliminate the need for a separate screen protector, saving users money. It also provides flexibility, allowing users to turn the feature off when it’s not needed, thus avoiding the consistently dimmer display associated with privacy screen protectors.
The Privacy Display feature is anticipated to be included with the Galaxy S26 Ultra later this month, although it remains uncertain if it will be limited to that flagship model.
