**2025 Smartphone Durability Awards -- The End is Near**
A number of phones came into the possession of tech YouTuber Zack Nelson this year, and each one underwent his rather harsh durability testing.
The multifaceted, albeit somewhat unscientific, evaluation conducted by Nelson on his JerryRigEverything channel involves using various sharp tools on the surfaces of the phones, covering them with dirt, and exposing the screens to flames. Finally, he bends the phones by hand to assess their structural integrity. Some remain whole, others crack, while some fall apart entirely.
Recently, Nelson evaluated Samsung’s inaugural TriFold phone. During the bending test, it seemed likely that this slim, double-hinged device would simply break. However, the phone surprisingly maintained its structure. Unfortunately, the display ceased to function, making the TriFold the first Samsung smartphone to fail Nelson’s durability assessment.
Despite the display malfunction, Nelson chose not to label the TriFold as the least durable phone of 2025. That dubious title went to the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which debuted in October.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold became the first device in a JerryRigEverything durability evaluation to explode during the bend test. What frustrated Nelson most about Google’s foldable phone was that despite the company labeling it as "extremely durable," they had not reinforced the weak area along the antenna line, which had previously caused failures in both of its predecessor Folds during Nelson's tests in prior years.
"To have the audacity to call the Pixel 10 Pro Fold ‘extremely durable’ during their launch while not modifying the antenna line locations that led to catastrophic failures in past versions is an insult to tech enthusiasts everywhere," Nelson remarked at that time, adding, "It’s fine to promote the phone, but don’t mislead about its durability if no improvements were made … this is hands down the weakest folding phone I’ve ever tested."
In his awards video this week, the YouTuber commented: “If you treat your phone with care, it likely won’t break. But as a manufacturer, if Google is aware of a design flaw and neglects to correct it, that’s a significant issue since some of us value durability.”
On a brighter note, the title of the most durable phone of 2025 went to the extremely resilient Tank 3 Pro. Acknowledging that the Tank 3 Pro is somewhat unique, the YouTuber recognized the OnePlus 15 as the most durable mainstream phone of the year.

**Bixby on Galaxy phones may soon rival Gemini with smarter answers**
Samsung is reportedly testing a Perplexity-powered upgrade for its voice assistant.
Although Google’s Gemini may have overshadowed Bixby on recent Galaxy smartphones, Samsung is not giving up on its voice assistant. Instead, it seems that the company has partnered with Perplexity to enhance Bixby’s responses and provide users with a more capable alternative to Gemini.
This collaboration came to light in July, when reports indicated that Samsung was exploring partnerships with organizations like Perplexity and OpenAI to introduce more AI features to Galaxy phones. At that time, a Samsung executive confirmed the company's intentions, though no details were provided on how these partnerships would benefit end users.
**Don't ignore your Pixel 10 Pro flashlight; community raises concerns**
A recent Reddit post has raised alarms after one Pixel 10 Pro owner reported that the flashlight lens melted, leaving a dark, crater-like mark around the LED module in a macro photo.
The user mentioned this occurred during regular use, without any drops or obvious accidents. While this isn’t definitive evidence of a widespread issue, it represents a type of hardware damage that can easily go unnoticed.
**Samsung’s Galaxy S28 series could be the first to feature an in-house GPU**
Reports indicate that Samsung is planning to unveil its custom GPU with the Exynos 2800.
Samsung is making significant investments in its in-house Exynos SoCs, with indications that the forthcoming Galaxy S26 series will utilize the recently released Exynos 2600 chipset. Built on a 2nm manufacturing process, this chip promises substantial performance and efficiency improvements due to a redesigned 10-core CPU, a new Xclipse 960 GPU, and an upgraded built-in NPU. However, Samsung appears to have even more substantial enhancements in store for future Exynos SoCs.
According to a recent report from Hankyung (via Android Authority), Samsung has developed its own GPU architecture and may introduce it alongside the Exynos 2800 in 2027. This suggests that the Galaxy S28 series could be the first lineup to feature a custom Samsung GPU.
