LG’s latest OLED panel merges LCD-level clarity with a 240Hz refresh rate.

By combining a 240Hz refresh rate with a true RGB stripe subpixel configuration, LG Display is transforming the capabilities of OLED monitors, resolving longstanding issues with text clarity while enhancing speed and contrast.

The South Korean display technology leader LG has officially unveiled the world's first 240Hz OLED panel featuring an RGB stripe subpixel layout, marking a significant and exciting advancement in display technology at CES 2026.

This 27-inch 4K OLED panel offers a peak refresh rate of 240Hz, making it ideal for professional applications like high-end gaming or competitive esports, as well as appealing to creators and power users who depend on precise frame timing.

The RGB stripe structure will greatly enhance text clarity.

However, the panel's most notable feature is not just its refresh rate. Unlike conventional OLED panels that utilize the company’s WRGB structure (which incorporates white subpixels), this new panel is equipped with an "RGB stripe structure."

The RGB stripe configuration organizes all the red, green, and blue subpixels in straight vertical lines, much like traditional LCD monitors. This arrangement minimizes problems such as color bleeding, fringing, and visual distortion when viewed from close range.

In practice, the RGB stripe structure should also enhance text clarity, which has been a chronic weakness of standard OLED monitors. Alongside text improvements, users can expect better sharpness, UI clarity, and overall desktop usability without compromising motion clarity.

LG has also improved the aperture ratio, which refers to the relative area of the pixel that produces light, enhancing brightness efficiency without increasing power consumption. Essentially, the panel is designed to offer higher peak brightness and greater uniformity while retaining the contrast typical of OLED displays.

For those who have considered OLED monitors but hesitated due to lengthy hours spent reading, writing, coding, gaming, or engaging with text-heavy interfaces, the LG 27-inch 4K OLED panel with an RGB stripe structure promises a superior experience.

The panel draws its clarity from LCD technology, combines the contrast and color vibrancy of OLEDs, and boasts an ultra-fast refresh rate with nearly instantaneous response times, all while achieving 4K resolution (160 ppi). The next step is to see this technology adopted by other brands, including LG Electronics, and for products to be announced during or after CES 2026.

Your next prebuilt PC could come without any memory.

Paradox Customs has introduced a unique option in its prebuilt PC configurator, allowing customers to order a system without any RAM installed. The boutique builder cites the significant memory shortage and soaring DRAM prices affecting the industry as the reason for this choice, which has made it challenging for builders to maintain inventory at stable prices. For customers with spare RAM at home or those looking for a bargain elsewhere, this option helps circumvent the "RAM tax" that has been increasing prebuilt costs.

Mozilla's Firefox AI kill switch is on the horizon, but it won’t arrive until 2026.

Mozilla is working on a true kill switch to disable AI features in Firefox, but it's not expected soon. In response to an open letter on Reddit directed at Mozilla’s new CEO, a representative from Mozilla, using the username anthony-firefox, stated that a legitimate kill switch is anticipated in Q1 2026. This response aims to reassure concerned users that Firefox will serve a diverse audience, including developers, Linux users, students, parents, and those who stick with default settings, while emphasizing the importance of user control. The letter, penned by a self-identified developer and regular user, suggests that the issue lies more in execution than in ambition, especially when user feedback goes unaddressed.

The upskilling opportunity: The significance of AI PCs in workforce transformation.

The impact and potential of artificial intelligence in the workplace are no longer just theoretical. AI tools expedite processes, create content, and extract insights at unprecedented speeds. Yet, for some professionals, the benefits of AI may seem unattainable—not due to technological constraints, but because they haven't learned how to utilize it.

AI PCs are set to change this landscape. These next-generation devices come equipped with on-device AI optimization, natural language models, and intelligent workflows integrated into the operating system, all of which are powerful productivity enhancers reshaping digital work. Employees will have the opportunity to acquire new skills and better understand how to collaborate with AI in ways that are intuitive, secure, and efficient.
