Your Android device might soon provide intelligent suggestions tailored to your actions.
Contextual suggestions may extend Pixel 10's Magic Cues to additional Android devices.
With the Pixel 10 series, Google unveiled Magic Cue, an AI-driven feature that assesses user phone habits and provides customized suggestions and app actions to enhance daily activities. This functionality has primarily been exclusive to Google's newest flagship devices, yet the company is developing a similar feature for a broader range of Android phones.
As reported by Android Authority, Google is testing a new feature called Contextual Suggestions, which will deliver “useful suggestions from applications and services based on users' daily activities and locations.” This feature is currently being trialed in the beta version 25.49.32 of Google Play Services.
Users participating in the latest beta can activate it by going to Settings > Google Services > All services > Other and toggling it on the Contextual suggestions page, although it is not universally available to all beta testers. The settings page illustrates its functionality, noting that if a user typically listens to music during workouts, the feature can automatically suggest a playlist from the music app when they get to the gym.
For suggestions based on the user's location, the settings page includes an option to enable location sharing. There is also a “Manage your data” feature that allows users to erase data collected for contextual suggestions, alongside a privacy section indicating that the functionality operates within an encrypted area on the device and does not share user data with other applications or Google.
How Contextual suggestions operate
A section detailing the feature indicates that it utilizes device activity and location information to predict what might be beneficial for the user. An additional example provided states that if a user frequently casts sports games to their TV on specific days, the feature can present a casting suggestion at the right time on those days.
It’s not yet known if the Contextual Suggestions will be restricted to Google’s apps or if they will also include third-party applications. Google is anticipated to provide further information when the feature becomes more widely available.
