Lenovo's forthcoming self-charging keyboard will cater to both your professional and gaming requirements.
Although there hasn't been a major advancement in computer input devices like keyboards, Lenovo may change that at CES 2026. A report from Windows Latest indicates that the company is developing a self-charging keyboard and mouse set, another translucent model, and an adaptive smart keyboard.
The most distinctive product mentioned is referred to as the “Lenovo Self-Charging Kit Concept.” This device reportedly gathers energy from low indoor lighting (as low as 50 lux) and charges itself while in use indoors. While this technology bears resemblance to Logitech’s solar-powered keyboards, it can function without direct sunlight.
To provide some context, traditional solar-powered devices, including keyboards, typically require around 200-500 lux of light, making the Self-Charging Kit Concept particularly intriguing. Currently, this product is anticipated to remain a concept, but it could gain popularity once it is available to consumers. After all, who wouldn’t want a keyboard and mouse set that doesn’t need charging or batteries for its entire lifespan?
Another leaked product, known as the Lenovo 900 Wireless Low-Profile Mechanical Keyboard (and Mouse), is expected to feature a translucent design. Unlike the indoor light-powered keyboard, this model is not just a concept, which increases the likelihood of Lenovo releasing it soon (available in Thunder Gray and Cloud Gray colors).
In terms of features, the keyboard is expected to include Lenovo’s unique four-point mechanical switches that enhance the typing experience. Additionally, the keyboard will support multi-device connectivity (via 2.4G dongle or dual Bluetooth).
Although the report did not include any images of the translucent keyboard, I envision it as a mechanical keyboard with a transparent casing that reveals its internal components, giving it a stylish and futuristic appearance—similar to a keyboard that might be created by Nothing.
Finally, Lenovo is also developing a smart keyboard capable of modifying the typing experience based on user needs. The report states that this device can “adjust the stroke with optical actuation controls,” which should provide different tactile feedback for various tasks.
In gaming scenarios, the keyboard will recognize rapid key presses, while lighter and more precise key presses will cater to professionals. Promotional images show that the keyboard includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and battery indicators at the top, with a majority of the space occupied by the keys, resulting in minimal frame space.
Importantly, there is no number pad, enhancing the keyboard's portability. For everyday users, Lenovo’s new keyboards are set to offer a quieter, smarter, and more convenient typing experience.
In summary, CES 2026 is poised to be a significant event for the company’s peripherals sector, though these concepts may not be available in the market until 2027.
