Microsoft Copilot subtly appears on LG TVs, and it cannot be removed.
A new webOS update introduces the Copilot and Live Plus features for LG TVs.
Microsoft's Copilot has appeared on LG webOS TVs without much fanfare, with many users only realizing its presence after a recent update. The topic gained traction when a Reddit user posted screenshots showcasing a Microsoft Copilot tile on their LG TV home screen following the update. The post quickly gained attention, and other LG TV owners verified they were experiencing the same.
As additional reports surfaced, it became evident that this is not an isolated issue tied to a single model. This development aligns with LG's prior intentions to incorporate Copilot into its TV software, particularly in the newer versions of webOS. According to LG's own documentation, some applications are categorized as system components, which may explain why Copilot lacks an uninstall option like other apps. Users can choose not to sign in or relocate the tile, but the application itself remains installed.
Additionally, Live Plus has also been activated by default.
In conjunction with Copilot, the recent LG TV update has automatically enabled a feature named Live Plus. As described on-screen by LG, Live Plus allows the TV to identify the content being displayed and utilize viewing data to offer personalized services, including recommendations and advertisements. Unlike Copilot, Live Plus can be disabled.
Per Video Cardz, Live Plus can be turned off by navigating to Settings > All Settings > General > Additional Settings and deactivating Live Plus (note that these steps may vary by region and model). Once disabled, the TV will cease using on-screen content recognition for those services. Currently, Copilot does not have a similar option. Therefore, LG TV owners have limited control beyond hiding the app or opting out of online functionalities altogether.
The current situation illustrates how smart TVs are integrating AI features at the system level, often more swiftly than users can respond or decline. For those considering an upgrade, LG's 2025 TV lineup is heavily focused on software-driven features like AI assistants, which is an important consideration when selecting a new model. LG's recent announcements at CES also provide insight into the future of TV software and AI features, hinting at potential major trends for 2026.
