Your Pixel Watch 4 will be receiving two additional gestures to enhance one-handed usability.
You can now perform various actions with a double pinch or by turning your wrist.
Google has introduced a new "Raise to Talk" gesture with the Pixel Watch 4, allowing users to activate Gemini simply by lifting their wrist. The company is now adding two more AI-powered gestures to its smartwatch, enabling one-handed operation.
In a recent blog post, Google announced the new Double Pinch and Wrist Turn gestures, which will be available for the Pixel Watch 4 with the December 2025 software update based on Wear OS 6.1. These gestures will allow users to undertake actions like scrolling through notifications, dismissing notifications, or snoozing alarms. Additionally, the update will feature improved Smart Replies that use on-device Gemini-based language models to create replies for Google Messages and more, even when the watch is not paired with a phone.
The Double Pinch gesture involves tapping the index finger and thumb together twice to execute various functions. According to a community post about the update for the Pixel Watch, this gesture will enable users to scroll through alerts, send the first Smart Reply, manage timers and stopwatches, snooze alarms, play/pause music, and take photos. Support for answering and ending calls using this gesture will be added soon.
To use the Wrist Turn gesture, users simply need to turn their wrist away and back. This gesture will allow them to silence incoming calls quickly or close alert notifications. Both gestures will be activated by default after the installation of the December 2025 update on the Pixel Watch 4. The watch will display helpful hints to guide users on when the gestures are available.
Enhanced Smart Replies will be accessible on the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4, with Google claiming it will offer performance that is twice as fast and three times more efficient in memory usage, thanks to the new on-device model. Google has already begun rolling out the December 2025 update and expects it will reach all users in the coming weeks. While these new features are exclusive to the Pixel Watch 3 and 4, the update will also be applicable to the Pixel Watch 2.
