Samsung introduced a digital car key feature in its Wallet app in 2021, enabling users to lock and unlock their vehicles using a Galaxy device. Initially, the feature supported a limited number of car models; however, Samsung has since broadened its compatibility to include various models from BMW, Mini, Genesis, Kia, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz. Earlier this year, select Volvo and Polestar EVs were added, and now a few Porsche models are being included.
In a recent blog post, Samsung announced that Galaxy users can now utilize the digital key feature with the 2026 Porsche Macan. The Samsung Wallet will extend its support to additional Porsche models next year, including the upcoming Cayenne Electric. With the digital key function, Porsche drivers will be able to lock, unlock, and start their cars using a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. Furthermore, the feature will enable drivers to easily share temporary access to their vehicles with friends or family by sending the digital key through Samsung Wallet.
Samsung Wallet’s Digital Key feature allows users to wirelessly manage their car via UWB or NFC technology. Therefore, it is only functional on Galaxy devices equipped with a UWB chip or NFC capability. The list of compatible devices is extensive, including flagship models dating back to the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy foldables, and select Galaxy A series devices such as the Galaxy A36 and A56.
Samsung indicates that Digital Key support for Porsche vehicles will be made available through the Wallet app on all compatible devices this month in Europe, followed by a global rollout “aligned with the launch timeline of Porsche vehicles.” Galaxy users should check Samsung’s announcement post for compatibility and can follow the guidance on the company’s Digital Key support page to register their digital key in the Samsung Wallet app.
