Three excellent free movies to watch this weekend (May 23-25).

Death still maintains its presence at the theater. Final Destination Bloodlines, the franchise's first release since 2011, dominated the box office with a $51 million opening in the domestic market. With positive reviews and impressive earnings, we can anticipate more Final Destination films in the coming years.

This weekend, Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning are among the most significant draws for Memorial Day. If you can’t make it to a theater, there are many free options available on FAST services. One suggestion is Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. Our other two recommendations focus on basketball and college gatherings.

We also provide guides for the best new movies to stream, the top films on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and Disney+.

      **Hoosiers (1986)**

The NBA playoffs are currently underway. The unpredictability of the games often leads to surprising outcomes. One of the most notable upsets at the high school level is depicted in Hoosiers. The late Gene Hackman stars as Norman Dale, a college coach who experiences a downfall and returns to coach basketball at Hickory High School.

The small Indiana community is passionate about its basketball team but initially disapproves of Coach Dale, who employs strict disciplinary tactics. However, Dale’s coaching, combined with the return of star player Jimmy Chitwood (Maris Valainis), propels Hickory on an extraordinary journey in the 1951 state tournament. Hoosiers embodies the classic underdog narrative and effectively portrays the spirit of small-town sports.

**Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol (2011)**

Following a lukewarm response to Mission: Impossible 3, Tom Cruise and Ethan Hunt were in need of a fresh start. Cruise enlisted animation veteran Brad Bird to direct the fourth installment, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. This gamble paid off, rejuvenating the franchise and establishing a template for future films.

After being held responsible for a bombing at the Kremlin, the IMF faces disavowal, forcing Ethan (Cruise) to go into hiding. To clear his name and reinstate the IMF, Ethan must collaborate with other IMF fugitives to track down those behind the bombing. Ghost Protocol emphasized set pieces and practical effects, highlighted by Cruise’s ascent of the Burj Khalifa, which may be remembered as his most iconic stunt.

      **S#!%house (2020)**

Cooper Raiff has a keen understanding of young adults. Not since Richard Linklater has a new director captured the essence of coming-of-age cinema as Raiff did in S#!%house. (We’ll use the marketing title, but feel free to pronounce it with the accompanying expletives.) Homesick college freshman Alex (Raiff) finds it difficult to adjust to his new environment.

One evening, Alex goes to a party at the "S#!%house" fraternity and meets Maggie (Dylan Gelula), his sophomore residential advisor. The two spend the remainder of the night walking and talking, developing a genuine connection. While Alex seeks more from the relationship, Maggie seems ready to move on. Don’t be misled by the crude title; S#!%house is filled with heart and serves as an impressive directorial debut.
