3 PlayStation Plus games to try this weekend (May 16-19)
Sony Bend
The middle of the month often feels like an awkward time for PlayStation Plus games. Many of us will be diving into Doom: The Dark Ages this weekend, but its intense gory nature and heavy metal FPS style may not appeal to everyone. Additionally, there's the disappointing news we received a few weeks back about the delay of Lost Soul Aside this month, which leaves a significant gap for PlayStation players. However, I remain committed to uncovering the best titles in the PlayStation Plus catalogue to ensure you have great options to enjoy every weekend. This weekend, I've discovered an alternative FPS, an underrated open-world adventure, and a more relaxed experience. Let's explore them.
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Before iD Software rebooted the Doom series in 2016, it did the same for Wolfenstein. In my view, Wolfenstein: The New Order was the more impressive achievement. While iD made Doom Slayer nearly a godlike figure, it gave BJ Blaskowicz depth and humanity. What was once merely a pixelated character evolved into a relatable and intricate individual that you'll become genuinely invested in. Of course, it remains an FPS at its core, excelling in that aspect. Shooting Nazis, enhancing your weapons, and discovering secrets and collectibles make for thrilling gameplay, and we could all use some guilt-free Nazi elimination right now. Once you finish this installment, feel free to jump into the DLC and sequel.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is currently available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
Days Gone
With the recent remaster release, those who haven't previously owned the game might hesitate due to its launch price, which received a mixed response. If you find yourself in that situation, the original version is still available on PS Plus for you to explore. While it lacks the remaster's enhanced graphics, playing on the PS5 still offers a fantastic experience, to the point that I might argue the upgrade isn't necessary. Set during a zombie outbreak, you assume the role of a biker in Oregon working for various factions to survive and uncover personal mysteries. While it's not flawless, the connection you form with your motorcycle and its impact on exploration and encounters makes it worthwhile. It's also a solid alternative if you're in the mood for more zombie-themed entertainment while waiting for The Last of Us season 2.
Days Gone is now available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
Dave the Diver
Enough of those dark and gloomy games, right? With the sun shining, why not enjoy a game that brings cheerful vibes like Dave the Diver? This title appeared unexpectedly and quickly became a hit. The gameplay features a blend of underwater exploration, collection, questing, and upgrading, alongside an equally engaging restaurant management element. Everything you do while diving during the day contributes to enhancing your restaurant at night, and the earnings can be used to purchase upgrades for deeper and longer dives. It's a straightforward yet addictive loop, all presented in delightful pixel art and accompanied by fantastic music. There have also been numerous crossover events with other franchises that are sure to surprise and entertain.
Dave the Diver is currently available on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

The PlayStation 5 rental market is thriving in a great way
In early March, PlayStation Direct launched a rental program allowing players to rent a PlayStation 5 at an affordable monthly rate, which has become a significant success in Japan. Reports suggest that among the approximately 400 stores providing this service in the country, many have sold out. Players can rent a PlayStation 5 for eight days for just under $7 or for 15 days for around $12. A similar service exists in the UK, achieving comparable success. Unfortunately, this option isn’t available in the United States. Although some services allow you to rent a PlayStation 5, they usually operate on rent-to-own terms that aren't as budget-friendly as what PlayStation Direct offers.

April has been a relatively slow month for new and upcoming PS5 titles. Next month will feature a variety of enticing offerings, including the creepy The Midnight Walk and the action-packed Doom: The Dark Ages. However, during slower periods like this, PlayStation Plus steps in to help fill the void. The latter half of the month sees fewer titles added to the Extra and Premium tiers than usual, but the quality and diversity certainly make up for it. As always, we aim to present you with a variety of options to check out this weekend, and we are confident this collection of 3 new PlayStation Plus games has something you will enjoy.
