Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link has been cancelled, but there’s a positive aspect for fans.

Kingdom Hearts fans are experiencing a shift with one chapter closing and another beginning — quite literally. Square Enix has revealed that Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, the mobile spin-off designed for Android and iOS, has been cancelled.
In a statement shared on X, previously known as Twitter, on Wednesday, the company explained its reasoning for the cancellation of the game, which was set in Master Xehanort’s hometown of Scala ad Caelum, situated between the events of Kingdom Hearts Union Cross and Kingdom Hearts Dark Road. Square Enix noted that despite their efforts to refine the game's development and conduct several closed beta tests — resulting in multiple delays — they found it challenging to create a Kingdom Hearts live-service game that would keep fans engaged over time. The last delay had pushed the release of Missing Link to the end of 2024, a timeline that has now passed.
The statement partially reads, “We have made the decision to cancel the development of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link. We want to extend our sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to its launch. While we put in considerable effort into the game's development and adjustments, hoping it would be enjoyed by many players, we concluded that providing a service that players would find satisfactory over an extended period would be difficult, prompting our decision to cancel its development.”
The remainder of the statement offers some hope, noting that Kingdom Hearts 4 is still underway. This sequel to Kingdom Hearts 3, which would initiate The Lost Master Arc, was announced alongside Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link at the franchise’s 20th Anniversary event in Japan on April 10, 2022. However, since then, Square Enix has only released the announcement trailer featuring Sora in a real-world inspired setting resembling modern-day Tokyo, and there have been no updates on the game for the past three years.
As of now, Kingdom Hearts 4 does not have an official release date.
