The follow-up to The Office feels more real than ever with The Paper set to premiere on Peacock this September.
NBCUniversal unveiled the first image of The Paper during its upfront presentation on Monday. Taking place in the same universe as The Office, The Paper will focus on the team at the Toledo Truth-Teller. As per the logline, “The documentary crew that captured Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is on the lookout for a new subject when they stumble upon a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher working to revive it.”
Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nuñez were present at the upfront presentation to share the first-look image and announce the September 2025 release. The exact release date and time for The Paper will be disclosed later.
Gleeson portrays a new hire, while Impacciatore takes on the role of the managing editor. Nuñez will return as Oscar Martinez from The Office, now working as an accountant for the paper.
The cast also includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
Greg Daniels, who developed the U.S. version of The Office, has co-created The Paper with Michael Koman. The original creators of The Office, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, serve as executive producers alongside Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
The Office was a comedic phenomenon for nearly ten years, with its six-episode first season debuting to mixed reviews in 2005. However, it shifted to a more upbeat workplace comedy in the second season, which resulted in a more favorable reception.
Steve Carell’s character, Michael Scott, was portrayed as much harsher and darker in the initial season, as he attempted to echo Ricky Gervais’ David Brent from the original British series. By season two, Michael had transformed into a more likable and relatable character, significantly boosting the show’s appeal.
The Office aired for nine seasons and is now available for streaming on Peacock.

Sony pulls Street Fighter from release date; Phoebe Dynevor shark movie to 2026
Sony has revised its release schedule for Street Fighter and Phoebe Dynevor's upcoming shark thriller. Legendary Entertainment's Street Fighter has been removed from the release calendar. The live-action adaptation was previously slated for March 20, 2026. The film is co-developed and produced with Capcom, the company behind the Street Fighter video game franchise. No casting announcements have been made yet regarding the action film.
Last month, Kitao Sakuri was confirmed as the director for Street Fighter, taking over from Danny and Michael Philippou, who withdrew due to commitments to Bring Her Back. Sakuri is known for directing the 2021 film Bad Trip, starring Eric André, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish.
The last live-action adaptation of Street Fighter was directed by Steven E. de Souza in 1994, with a cast that included Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming-Na Wen, Raul Julia, Damian Chapa, and Byron Mann. Despite receiving negative reviews, that version grossed nearly $100 million worldwide and has developed a cult following.
Meanwhile, Sony's shark thriller, Shiver, has been rescheduled for 2026. Originally set for August 1, 2025, Shiver will now be released on July 3, 2026, coinciding with the Fourth of July weekend alongside Universal's Minions 3. Tommy Wirkola, the director of Violent Night, will helm Shiver, formerly titled Beneath the Storm. Bridgerton's Dynevor leads a cast that also features Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, with the plot details still under wraps. Wirkola is producing in collaboration with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, while D. Scott Lumpkin serves as the executive producer.
