Dell has executed its most significant PC rebranding in years, completely overhauling how it names and categorizes its laptops and desktops. The previous branding often left users confused about which PC would suit their needs and budget. Focusing on laptops, the Inspiron series targeted general users and encompassed budget to midrange options. The XPS line was positioned as Dell's premium offering, often appearing on lists of the best laptops, delivering the high performance demanded by “prosumers” like content creators. For more advanced users, Dell’s Precision line of professional workstations was available, along with the Latitude series for businesses.

Dell has now simplified its branding, introducing three primary PC lines: Dell (for mainstream consumers), Dell Pro (for professional productivity), and Dell Pro Max (for workstation-level performance), each presented in Base, Plus, and Premium tiers. This change is designed to help mainstream consumers—this site’s main audience—easier to align pricing with features without navigating a complicated numbering system.

The Dell Plus series is the first to launch in this new format, and my review focuses on the Dell Plus 16 2-in-1. It occupies a space between midrange and premium pricing, catering to users who require robust productivity and media consumption capabilities without needing the enhanced performance of a dedicated GPU. While the Dell Plus 16 2-in-1 doesn't innovate significantly, it provides a solid convertible 2-in-1 with a remarkable mini-LED display.

Pricing is a crucial aspect of evaluating the new Dell lineup. The Dell Plus 16 2-in-1 begins at a midrange price point and rises into premium territory. The base model is priced at $1,000, featuring an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V chipset, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 16.0-inch FHD+ IPS display, which is the only configuration with this chipset. To upgrade RAM and storage or to opt for the QHD+ mini-LED display necessitates selecting a different chipset. For instance, the Core Ultra 7 258V configuration offers 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and the mini-LED display for $1,450, which is the version I've reviewed. Upgrading to the faster Core Ultra 9 288V raises the price to $1,600.

This makes the Dell Plus 16 2-in-1 competitive with the Apple MacBook Air 15, which starts at the same $1,000 but offers less storage and becomes more expensive when fully upgraded. Other Windows laptops, such as the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14, are similarly priced and also cater to users seeking a well-constructed convertible 2-in-1.

      **Design**

The Dell Plus 16 2-in-1 showcases a new minimalist design, characterized by incredibly simple lines, reminiscent more of an Apple MacBook than Dell's previous Inspiron models. The Dell logo on the lid is discreet, making it hard to notice, and the consistent dark or light blue color

The Dell Plus 16 2-in-1 is one of the initial laptops under the company's new branding and makes a strong first impression. A significant factor in that is the mini-LED display.
