Google has been enhancing its Search feature with more AI capabilities, and an integrated AI Mode is now being made available to the general public. Unlike the AI Overview function that has been a standard part of Search since last year, the AI Mode is a chatbot that users can engage with as part of their search results.

Previously, AI Mode was only accessible as a Google Labs experiment, but Google has announced that it will become available to “a small percentage of people” in the U.S. over the next few weeks. Those participating in the test will notice an “AI Mode” tab in Search, which they can click to receive information related to their search from the chatbot.

“As an illustration, if you are searching for the best vintage shops that sell mid-century modern furniture, AI Mode will present nearby stores along with useful information such as real-time busyness, and you can easily make a call or obtain directions,” Google elaborates.

If you are not part of the Search rollout, you can still experiment with AI Mode if you are a Google Labs user, as the waitlist has been lifted and it is now accessible to anyone in the U.S.

The purpose of AI Mode is to allow users to pose more open-ended or exploratory questions, such as comparing the benefits of different types of jacket fabrics or identifying the tools and equipment needed to begin specific hobbies. In addition to providing this information, AI Mode can also offer additional assistance, like directing you to a store that sells your desired jacket or hobby supplies.

You can interact with the chatbot in a more natural, conversational manner instead of the typical keyword-based searches that most users are accustomed to on Google Search. A new feature of AI Mode is its ability to remember your prior searches and the information it has furnished, so you can revisit earlier sessions.

As with many AI tools, there are concerns regarding the correctness of the information offered by chatbots. However, Google asserts that AI Mode benefits from real-time access to information and utilizes multiple data sources to deliver more accurate responses.

Microsoft’s Copilot Vision AI is now available for free to all Edge users in the U.S. After months of previews and limited rollouts, this innovative AI tool is designed to observe your screen while you browse, allowing you to ask it various questions about your activity and receive contextually relevant responses.

Microsoft states that the feature works on "most" websites but provides a list of recommended starting points. This list includes Amazon, which is perhaps expected, but it also features Geoguessr, a site that challenges users to figure out their location without assistance. The complete list of suggested sites is as follows:

OpenAI previously separated its text and image generation but has integrated image capabilities directly into ChatGPT in recent weeks. Now, users can access an image library where they can view all the interesting creations they've made in one place.

Google has introduced an exciting new feature to Gemini Advanced, its AI personal assistant and chatbot. By simply providing a text prompt, Gemini can now generate an 8-second animated video, vividly bringing your words to life. This feature is driven by Veo 2, a video model introduced in late 2024, which is capable of producing realistic videos through an in-depth understanding of human movements, real-world environments, and various lens types.

Google explains that creating videos with Gemini and Veo 2 is straightforward: “Just describe the scene you wish to create — it could be a short story, a visual concept, or a specific scenario — and Gemini will manifest your ideas. The more detailed your description, the greater control you have over the final video. This opens up countless creative possibilities, allowing your imagination to explore unusual combinations, diverse visual styles from realism to fantasy, or swiftly narrate brief visual ideas.”
