Filming for Avengers: Doomsday has commenced as the Russo Brothers share a teaser image of Doctor Doom.
The Avengers have gathered in London for their upcoming project. Filming has commenced on Avengers: Doomsday, and the Russo Brothers have taken to social media to hint at the film's notorious antagonist.
“Day One…” the Russo Brothers posted on Instagram alongside an image of a chair labeled “Victor Von Doom.” This chair aligns with the Doomsday casting announcement, which similarly featured actors' names displayed on chairs. The chair designated for Victor Von Doom belongs to Robert Downey Jr., who is set to portray Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers installments.
After the release of 2019's Avengers: Endgame, Downey and the Russo Brothers stepped away from Marvel. In that film, Downey's Iron Man took the Infinity Stones to perform the snap, ultimately defeating Thanos and his forces. While this act saved the planet, it resulted in Iron Man's demise.
Following Endgame, the Russo Brothers directed Cherry, The Gray Man, and The Electric State. The siblings also produced Citadel, a global espionage action series for Prime Video. They announced their return to the MCU at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con alongside Downey.
As with many Avengers films, Doomsday boasts a large cast of heroes and villains. The confirmed lineup includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, and Pedro Pascal.
The most significant revelations thus far involve the return of the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox films. This includes Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, and Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy/Beast.
Notably, Tom Holland, who portrays Peter Parker/Spider-Man, is absent from the cast list. Holland is expected to return to the MCU for his fourth solo film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, two months after Doomsday in July 2026. If Holland does not appear in Doomsday, he will probably have a significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
