**Move over, Wordle: The New York Times has a new puzzle game**
The New York Times has launched a new game in its Games catalog following the success of Wordle, and this one's focused on math. Digits requires players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can currently play its beta version online for free.
In Digits, players encounter a target number they must match using six available numbers by performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Not every number has to be utilized, which means this game will challenge your math skills as you experiment with combinations and try to create the correct equations to approach the target number effectively.
Players receive a five-star rating for an exact match to the target number, a three-star rating if they get within 10, and a one-star rating if they come within 25 of the target number. Additionally, players can access five different puzzles with progressively larger numbers. I solved today’s puzzle and found it to be an enjoyable number-driven game that should appeal to those who enjoy puzzle games like Threes or other New York Times games such as Wordle and Spelling Bee.
In an article announcing Digits and outlining The New York Times Games team's development process, The Times indicated that the team will utilize this free beta period to address bugs and evaluate whether it should move into a more active development phase “where the game is coded and the designs are finalized.” So, be sure to try Digits while it's available, as The New York Times may decide to discontinue it if it doesn't garner the anticipated response.
Digits' beta is currently accessible for free on The New York Times Games' website.
