NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Saturday, April 26.

      Connections is considered one of the top puzzle games offered by the New York Times. In this game, you are challenged to categorize a collection of 16 words into four secret groups by uncovering how the words are related. The puzzle resets every night at midnight, with each new edition presenting a different level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare your results with friends.

      You can access Connections on the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app on iOS or Android. In the game, you're presented with a grid of 16 words—your goal is to organize these into four sets of four by recognizing the connections that bind them. These sets may include categories like names of video game franchises, book series, shades of red, or chain restaurant names.

      While some words may appear to fit into multiple categories, only one answer is wholly correct. You can shuffle the grid of words for better visibility of potential connections. Each group is color-coded; the yellow group is the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple.

      Select four words and click Submit. If your selection is accurate, the four words will disappear from the grid and the theme connecting them will be disclosed. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake; you are allowed four mistakes before the game concludes.

      Who oversees the NYT Connections game?

      Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, is the daily editor for Connections.

      “A few months ago, a new assignment came my way: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and needed an editor,” Liu explained in an article detailing her process in June 2024. "Most of my puzzle experience has been with crosswords, and I was eager to try something new. I’ve enjoyed discovering how puzzle editing unfolds once a game is greenlit and understanding our team’s role within a larger context.”
