Now, let’s shift our focus from Wordle: The New York Times has introduced a new puzzle game.
Following the success of Wordle, The New York Times has launched another game in its catalog, and this one revolves around math. Digits challenges players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can currently play its beta version online for free.
In Digits, players must match a target number using six provided numbers, employing any combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. All numbers don’t need to be used, so this game tests your math skills as you create equations to get as near to the target number as possible.
Players receive a five-star rating for an exact match, three stars if they are within 10, and one star if they fall within 25 of the target number. Additionally, players can experience five different puzzles with increasingly larger numbers. I completed today’s puzzle and found it to be an enjoyable number-based game that would appeal to curious individuals who enjoy puzzle games like Threes or other New York Times titles like Wordle and Spelling Bee.
In an article announcing Digits and explaining the development process of The New York Times Games team, the Times mentioned that this free beta would help fix bugs and determine if the game is ready to advance to more active development, where coding and design would be finalized. So, try out Digits while you can; the project may be shelved if it doesn’t garner the expected response.
The beta version of Digits is available to play for free now on The New York Times Games' website.

Wordle’s remarkable year: The New York Times discusses the phenomenon’s significant 2022.
If you logged onto Twitter exactly one year ago, you might remember when your feed was flooded with gray, yellow, and green squares. Launched in 2021 and gaining popularity in December of that year, Wordle became a cultural sensation by early 2022, becoming hard to avoid unless you muted certain words. Its unique combination of simplicity and appeal allowed it to resonate with a wide audience, marking a rare success in the gaming world.
Wordle's popularity surged alongside its user growth. In late January 2022, The New York Times announced the acquisition of the game from creator Josh Wardle for an undisclosed, low-seven-figure amount—a surprising announcement that nearly overshadowed Sony’s earlier acquisition of Destiny 2 developer Bungie. Fans expressed concerns that a corporate takeover of such an independent game might compromise its integrity.
Additionally, CES 2023: Wordle will take to the skies with Delta Air Lines.
The New York Times appeared at CES 2023 in collaboration with Delta to announce that its game lineup will be featured in the upcoming Delta Exclusives Hub. Soon, Delta Air Lines passengers will have the opportunity to play Wordle, Spelling Bee, and other games during flights via the airline's free Wi-Fi.
Currently, Delta passengers only enjoy free access to iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. But beginning February 1, Delta Air Lines plans to provide free Wi-Fi on flights for Delta SkyMiles members, along with access to content from the newly launched Delta Exclusives Hub.
When the Delta Exclusives Hub opens in spring 2023, passengers will be able to access games like Wordle, Spelling Bee, and The Crossword for free on domestic flights, regardless of whether they subscribe to The New York Times.
This announcement comes nearly a year after The
