Almost thirty years ago, the teen comedy Clueless solidified Alicia Silverstone’s status as an emerging movie star. She is now poised to potentially revive her role as Cher Horowitz in a Clueless sequel series currently in development at Peacock.

As reported by Deadline, Silverstone is set to both star in and serve as an executive producer for the prospective Clueless series. The original film, released in 1995 and penned and directed by Amy Heckerling, was a coming-of-age tale loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma. Details about the sequel series plot have not been revealed, but Heckerling will join producer Robert Lawrence in the executive production team. Additionally, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage from Gossip Girl and Jordan Weiss, the creator of Dollface, are involved in writing and executive producing the new Clueless.

Silverstone, who recently appeared in Netflix's thriller Reptile, notably revisited her role as Cher for a one-time Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten.

This is not the first time Clueless characters have appeared in a television format. In 1996, Rachel Blanchard took on the role of Cher in a Clueless series that aired for one season on ABC before it transitioned to UPN for its final two seasons. Stacey Dash, who starred in the original film as Dionne, also reprised her role for the series. More recently, Dash was expected to lead a different Clueless series that Peacock had been developing in 2019, which ultimately did not materialize.

It remains uncertain whether Dash, Paul Rudd, or any other surviving original cast members will be featured in the new Clueless TV series if it moves forward. Since the Clueless movie was produced by Paramount, CBS Studios controls the rights to the series and is collaborating with Universal TV to produce the potential Peacock adaptation.

As this project is still in early development, there is no indication of when or if it will debut. In the meantime, Peacock has new seasons of Twisted Metal and Poker Face scheduled for release soon.

Like the new Peacock series Ted? Then check out these five TV shows and films.

When you hear the name Ted, you might immediately think of the lovable yet crude stuffed bear from the 2012 Seth MacFarlane film of the same name (and its 2015 sequel, Ted 2). Years later, these films are accompanied by a prequel series also called Ted, now streaming on Peacock. Set in the ‘90s, it focuses on the misadventures of Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) alongside John (played by Max Burkholder, who takes over the role originally portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the movies) as John enters adulthood. While presented like a family-friendly sitcom, the series features the same raunchy humor as the films.

Fans of the Ted movies will likely enjoy the new series. If you're in search of other similarly crude comedies, these five series and films will definitely appeal to you. Afterward, explore five outstanding comedies from the last five years that are worth your time.

5 TV shows similar to Peacock’s Twisted Metal series that you should watch

For fans of Sony PlayStation gaming, nothing compares to the relentless onslaught of bullets, missiles, burnt rubber, and chaos found in a Twisted Metal video game. The Twisted Metal series has long been known for its violent matchups between vibrant characters and their heavily armed vehicles. Forget traditional racing; explosions, smoke, and blood are the name of the game, and this live-action adaptation of the video game will arrive on the Peacock streaming service.

As devoted fans and newcomers alike dive into the Twisted Metal series, there will undoubtedly be a demand for other shows that share similar themes and narratives. However, few TV shows can match the intense experience of Twisted Metal. It is a concept built upon the legacy of classic post-apocalyptic films such as Mad Max. Still, there are TV series that possess a dark and gritty nature and feature unique, colorful characters in potentially post-apocalyptic settings that may fit the theme.
