LG's newest smart monitor features wheels for mobility, but requires a power outlet.
LG has introduced the Smart Monitor Swing, an innovative mobile display that features a 31.5-inch 4K UHD IPS touchscreen and a stand with built-in wheels. Aimed at users who value portability, the Swing is considered a successor to LG’s StanbyME portable screen.
In contrast to the StanbyME, this model lacks a built-in battery, as it relies on a power adapter. This decision raises concerns about mobility since it limits users to the length of the power cord.
According to the product video, setting up and disassembling the display and stand is simple and can be done with a button press. The screen is attached to a fully adjustable arm that allows it to tilt, swivel, and rotate into portrait mode, catering to various uses from a vertical dashboard for productivity applications to a horizontally aligned media center.
Operating on webOS, LG claims that the Smart Monitor Swing does not require a PC to operate. Users have the ability to install apps directly on the monitor, stream videos, participate in video calls, or browse the internet using the included remote control or touch options.
The monitor includes three USB-C ports that provide up to 65W of power delivery, as well as two HDMI ports for connecting laptops, gaming consoles, or other devices. Built-in stereo speakers are also included, which reduce the need for external audio in most situations.
LG states that the Smart Monitor Swing is aimed at content creators, digital signage, hybrid workers, and anyone who appreciates a flexible and tidy workspace. To maintain a clean design, the monitor encompasses cable management features and a concealed power adapter compartment at the base of the stand.
Currently, the company has not disclosed plans for a global release, but the Smart Monitor Swing is expected to be available in South Korea starting April 24 through its official online store, with a price tag of 1,049,000 Won, roughly translating to $740 USD.
